Hi, so in my world I have some creatures that I’m having some trouble giving a type to. I have these entities that are kind of like sentient forces with unique abilities and traits that don’t quite fit into the given categories. I did have them as unknown, but that is unsupported as a type and isn’t in the encounter builder.
For example - Echoes: they are shapeless masses of shadow-like energy that don’t quite have a physical form but can still affect things around them, like a ghost or shadow - but they can’t be undead cause they never died. They can take the form of another creature, like a shapeshifter - but they’re incorporeal and can gain their abilities and skills too. They’re from the fabric of another realm/reality, like an aberration - but they’re mostly humanoid and without a whole lot of mental abilities.
So to recap, shapeless incorporeal creatures, that can take the visage and skills of another creature, and are sentient forces from another realm. Thoughts!

For your echoes I would go aberration (or possibly elemental) if it were me. Just because they are somewhat humanoid doesn’t preclude them from being aberrations, look at the mind flayer. And just because they don’t have mind powers doesn’t preclude them from being aberrations either, look at the choker or the core spawn crawler.
Thanks, I think I was leaning more towards that anyways. I wasn’t sure if I wanted them to be affected in the same way aberrations are with certain spells and features. I definitely think aberration makes the most sense, thank you!
