I am making a homebrew item of a "heavy bow" much like the heavy crossbow, I simply want to increase that damage of 1d8 to 1d12 but i am unsure as to how to do so.. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Short answer: You can't.
Long answer: Read this. You can kitbash something together using any d12 based weapon, such as: greataxe, lance, musket or Musket (Exandria). You can't change a melee weapon to a ranged. You can't change the range of a ranged weapon. You can't remove firearm properties if there are any. But as long as the game log says "Heavy Bow" and rolls 1d12, then at the end of the day, that's all you need.
