If you create a home brew for a subclass of spellcasters, then create a home brew spell for those spellcasters and put that spell on their expanded list (for say warlock); when you reference the spell in code (ie. [spell]x[spell]) how do you refer to a home brew spell?
To my understanding of the system, I do not think it is possible.
I believe what happens is that when we bracket something, it is basically the indicator to the system to reference a database of all the stuff. Homebrew is not part of that particular database and cannot be referenced. Probably.
I stumbled on this post after working up some homebrew with cross references to other homebrew. I used the browser's console to take a look under the hood at the HTML. Here's what I found:
This will format the tooltip properly for the tooltip type (e.g., monster, item, spell, etc.) and make the tooltip an active link. Just replace the underlined segments with the proper info from your homebrew creation.

It seems that by "external links" they mean "outside the page with the link" rather than "outside D&D Beyond"? I included a link to a spell on DDB in my homebrew spell (which is the only link in the description), but it's still marked as not publishable. It's not a big deal, since it's only for my campaign anyway (so my players should be able to see it as-is), but for some reason "external" just bothers me.

You can.
I don't know if it needs to be published or not, haven't tested, but you can.

Hm. That's that then.
May not be frequent, but perhaps suggest that for Sposta's FAQ?
Thank you I will give it a shot
Try this.
Just note you will not be able to publish that homebrew if it has external links.
