Hey everyone, my dm wants to give my Rogue the Jump spell but I am having a hell of a time trying to add it to my character. I know by default a rogue doesn't have access to spells so I have done the following:
1. Created a homebrew subclass based off the Swashbuckler. I set both "Can casts spells" and "Knows all Spells" to 'yes'.
2. Created a homebrew spell based off of Jump.
3. On my character sheet, I have turned Homebrew on and also selected my subclass as the Homebrew Swashbuckler that I created.
However, I cannot add this homebrew Jump spell I created, nor can I select any spell at all (even though this Homebrew Swashbuckler has those spell options on it). I have been googling and trying to click around the site for over an hour now and I cannot figure this out and I am starting to lose my mind. If someone could please help me it would be greatly appreciated.
That is an alternative option I can explore, but I would like to figure out my original issue because this isn't the only spell I will be given over the course of the campaign.
Ah, gotcha. That does change things (though you can still do it with a feat easily enough). To add spellcasting to a class that doesn't have it, the homebrew subclass must have a feature named 'Spellcasting.' There might be other details as well, but it might be easier to either start with Arcane Trickster as your base and add in the Swashbuckler elements, or at least homebrew a straight copy of Arcane Trickster to see how it's got Spellcasting set up.
Oh, that was it! Thank you! That was such a huge help. Is there any way I can add spells directly from my character sheet? Or do I have to always go and edit this subclass and it's spell list in order to have the spell show up on my sheet?
That I don't know off the top of my head. If you know all of the spells that you will eventually have access to, you could see if they're all on the spell list for the same class (eg wizard) and give your subclass access to that spell list. Homebrewing all the spells and making them available to your subclass might also do it? It might also depend on when/how you get access to new spells.
One thing to point out is that “knows all spells” does absolutely nothing for your subclass, regardless of which answer you select. I gave detailed information regarding the process of adding Spellcasting to subclasses for martial classes here (including photos and a link to an example PC so you can check to verify the information is correct):
PPS- Jump was included in the Basic Rules & SRD, and as such is a free-access spell available to everyone, it doesn’t require any additional purchases, nor would mapping it to your subclass preclude your being allowed to publish it on DDB. If I recall I also included a link to the Spells list filtered to only display all of the freely accessible spells in that thread I linked for you in my last post. If you didn’t want to include an entire Class’ Spell List as pocketmouse suggested, you could narrow the available selection to a narrower list of specific individual spells, and as long as they are all free-access spells, you shouldn’t have any issues.
Hey, okay thank you so much for all that information that got me the other part to this i was looking for :) I really do appreciate it. And my bad for where I put this - but thank you again for all your help.

Why not just use a Ring of Jumping? Or homebrew based on one if you want to limit the uses per day.

PS- This would be more appropriate in the Homebrewer & House Rules forum as it is neither a Bug to report, nor a support issue to get resolved.

No worries, everyone puts their first post regarding the homebrewer under Bugs & Support.
