I'm trying to create a weapon-smith subclass for the Artificer and I wanted to know if I could somehow replicate the Hex Weapon feature that the hex blade Warlock gets. So that I could mark the weapon in the character sheet as a "Special" weapon for adding bonuses and what not. I tried to find out myself by looking at the Hex blade as a homebrew template but didn't get anything out of it.
That functionality is hard-coded to the feature name itself. If you add a feature named “Hex Warrior” to any subclass it will automatically generate the little “Hex Weapon” checkboxes to weapons in that character’s inventory that would tell the character sheet to use Cha for the Attack and Damage rolls instead of Str or Dex. There is no way to alter the feature to use a different Ability score, nor can you change the name of the feature without rendering it inoperable.
