I recently created a homebrew wizard subclass, and when I tried to create a homebrew spell, I could not choose the homebrew wizard school for the spell's school. Only the original eight schools were given as options.
For more context, I copied the wizard subclass "School of Automation" from the Greasemonkeys Handbook and entered it as a homebrew subclass into the system. (It's not my homebrew, but I'm adding it as private homebrew so I can have a digital version for my character sheet for ease.) When I created the homebrew spell "Assemble", the system would not allow me to choose "Automation" for the school's spell.
I understand that making a homebrew subclass may be different from creating a homebrew school of magic, which is probably the issue. Is there a way that I can create a homebrew school of magic so that I can select it as a school for a homebrew spell?
I can add the spell to my character no problem. The issue I'm trying to resolve is picking "Automation" for the homebrew spell's school. The system won't let me save the spell without picking a school, so for now I've picked "Abjuration" since they both start with "A".
The 8 schools of magic are canonically set for D&D. You can totally make a new Subclass, but all of the spells are ould belong to one of the 8 schools. Remember, Wizard Traditions (Subclasses) are not actually “schools of magic” many of them simply follow a chosen school. That being said, you can still limit those spells to only be available for characters of that subclass if you want to.

Thank you for your time!
You can't make homebrew schools, but you should be able to add it to your subclass in the class section.
