There are some magic items that give a bonus to players only of a specific class. I find these to be one of the most interesting types of items, because they enhance a specific classes strength. Holy Avenger is one, and Rod of the Pact Keeper is another. I was hoping to design a special magic item for each class, and in doing so I first broke down the existing items.
The Holy Avenger is a standard +3 weapon, but also deals extra damage to undead. In addition, it give you an aura that scales with your paladin level.
The Rod of the Pact Keeper is slightly different. There are there versions, +1, +2, and +3. In addition to improving your to hit roll (like a Wand of the War Mage, +1 ), it also improves your spell save DC. It also allows you to regain a spell slot as an action.
The Holy Avenger increases a Paladin's ability to buff targets, while the Rod of the Pact Keeper shores up some of the weakness in the Warlock's spell slots.
I wanted to design similar items for different classes. They would follow the same pattern of the above weapons, in boosting something the class is good at or shoring up a weakness. Some ideas I thought of:
Item for monks that gives +3 to hit with unarmed strikes, also allows some method of regaining ki
Item for druids that gives some benefit to wild shape, such as plus to attack rolls and ac while in it, or something that increases the CR of animals you can turn into.
Item for Rangers that generally makes them more powerful in every aspect
Item for Barbarians that increases crit chance or rage damage
Item for artificers that somehow makes infusions better
For Bards I create specific instruments that grant the bard one spell that is something like a free ritual spell. For example, I give many NPC Bards a lute that casts Zone of Truth if certain melodies are played. The listener must hear the music for five or ten minutes before the spell has taken effect. The Bard is allowed to focus the effect on one (N)PC at a time, but once it begins, he may switch focus at will to other characters. So in an environment like a tavern the Bard has a deal set up with his group that after he starts playing this tune the player may start questioning a (N)PC. If there are others, he just switches his focus from one to another. But if he doesn't focus on his groups members, they are allowed to use half-truths to mislead the 'victim' of their reasons for wishing to know these things.
Another interesting item could be fashioned like IamSopsta's boutonniere as an article of clothing that grants any number of effects.
For a Duke, I fashioned a Rod of the Ruler which he keeps with him often. It is a symbol of his authority. When he makes the proper somatic gesture it grants him the ability to make an ability check with a wisdom of 20 and sometimes a +1 or +2 beyond that since many rulers already have high wisdom scores. It has so many charges per day, and resets at dawn. Similar Rods are in the possession of lesser nobles. They either have fewer charges or a wisdom stat of less than 20 or both. The best ones are made of gold and platinum and the lesser ones are made of gold and silver or just silver. I envision this as the ability to have the wisdom of Solomon every day when a crucial decision must be made. For flavor, other NPCs carry their rod of their office with them as well. So a low official may have a well made wooden rod with a cast symbol of an eagle or something on the upper end and the 'seal' of their office on the bottom made with a metal engraved disc. The rods are typically fifteen to twenty four inches long. These rods could be flavored to grant a high charisma score instead.
I came up with an item a rogue or a bard might like quite a bit. It is the Twin Quills of a Phoenix (or whatever feathered critter you like). The item allows anything to be copied when one of the twin quills is used.

That's all I can think of now.
A fool pulls the leaves. A brute chops the trunk. A sage digs the roots.
My Improved Lineage System
Got one for that.
Stuff for Bards, Druids/Rangers, and Warlocks too.

Cool. Do you mind if I link it in the original post? (I'll give credit.)
