TL;DR: First game. First combat. First round. First character dies.
Long Version:
So, I sit down for my first ever game of D&D.
I've heard about it because my cousin's friends play in their basement where they have a sand table and all kinds of miniatures and stuff. The sand table in question is extra awesome because it has a two-part flip-up lid that covers it over to be used as a regular table for D&D sessions.
My cousin and I are both playing for the first time ever. The group is six people, some have characters already, others are playing new characters, only my cousin and I are new to the game though.
We roll up characters with nearly identical ability scores and decide that we are playing twin brother elves. We join up with the adventuring group because they are looking for more adventurers before they head out to raid an ancient tomb that they found a map to. The problem is that last game a goblin thief managed to snag the map for a while and made a copy before the party caught and killed him. So now the race is on to get an expedition together and to get there before the goblins.
Three days of travel later and our ranger is pretty sure that there have been goblins along this way very recently. When we get to the site of the tomb we are pretty sure that the goblins beat us there because there is a wall of fire right in front of the entrance. Some good rolls and some digging in the dirt and we disable the wall of fire without anyone actually running through it and we enter the ancient tomb - my first time entering a dungeon.
Ahead the passageway narrows, and we think we detect motion up there. But there is also an ancient door and passage to our left, and the ranger is pretty sure he hears goblins down there. So we head left (so we don't get stuck with goblins behind us) and sure enough, we come across the goblin base camp - a group of scrawny blighters with lots of rope, torches, some picks, 8 foot poles and so on. Worried that they will raise the alarm, we rush them - albeit without surprise.
With high initiative, we rush in before they have a chance to react and I leap to the attack swinging my shiny new sword that has never seen battle before. I roll a 17, a hit! My damage roll is also high, driving the little monster to the ground, my blade deep in his rib cage.
But then it strikes me, I'm in the middle of a bunch of goblins and the survivors are angry. One rushes at me screaming something about me killing his cousin (at least I spoke goblin, so I realized exactly what was happening). Unable to free my blade from his cousin's ribcage in time to defend myself, the little blighter struck at me with his rusted and bent pickaxe and rolled a 15 or so, just enough to hit me. In the head. Killing my poor elf outright and leaving him on the floor collapsed upon the body of the goblin he had killed.
And that is the full story of my first ever D&D character and session. My cousin's character survived the battle and the DM gave him a permanent +1 to hit and damage against goblins after watching his twin brother be killed by them.
My first character was a human Bard named Jester made and played in Pathfinder.
It was through this character me and friends though discovered how much RNG hates me. As a he caused the following all with bad rolls.
Caused 2 bows to explode (in the first session)
Nearly swallowed his trombone
Accidentally put the whole party to sleep by casting sleep via said trombone in a small alleyway,
Forgot to pull his rapier out after stabbing someone with it.
Accidentally unleashed a necromaniac curse killing a whole city
Caused a bartender to get turned into a undead demon thing.
But that character still lives on in a way. Thanks to a wish he is now reborn after each death in a new world and new personality. Though I don't play him anymore he occasionally turns up as a npc or bad guy.
EDIT: Adding in something else I forgot he caused.
My first character was a halfling rogue, I don’t remember her name. My friends and I were in sixth grade (2003) and learning 3.5 together, no guidance. I’d mixed up “tiefling” and “halfling,” so instead of an ultra cool super sexy sort-of-demon, I wound up playing what has since been affectionately called “ninja Frodo.” That’s all I know her as now.
Yep, a human paladin named William. I remember how OP he was at level 5, I one hit the Black Spider from the Lost Mine of Phandelver before he even got a shot off at our party.
We were 13-14 playing 3.5E. He was a human cleric, I think his name was Firehart. We died to kobolds...He was resurrected and later died to mounted riders.
First Ever Character? WHFRP: "John" an Adopted Noble's son, who happened to be faithful of Sigmar. Got Infection, Tripped Balls, thought he received a vision from Said Deity and went on a crusade. Got Eaten by a Piano/Organ if i recall.....
First D&D Character? Sorcerer, managed to find a Ring of Elemental Command: Fire. At level 4. Gm had planned for it and ended the game about a session or two Later.

Although this is not my first character, or my character, or anyone’s character, I was once in a party with an animal companion, a squirrel, with a level of fighter.
My first character was a human cleric named Krillin - after the Dragon Ball Z character. I never got him past level 1 because the adventuring group I was in didn't progress very far, but he was a character I kept and worked into homebrew stuff. Later I would write him in short stories and base his demeanor on Dr. McCoy from Star Trek.

I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
My first DnD character was a homebrew dhampir called Bram Blade the 2nd. He is one my favorite characters I have made and will always hold a special place in my heart.
My first character was a 3E genderfluid half-elf druid named Gwydion. The campaign fizzled out after only a couple sessions because my girlfriend's parents wouldn't let her play - they thought DnD was satanic - and also the DM was kind of a slacker. So it goes.
I decided to reboot Gwydion for a 5E game two years ago. I went with Circle of the Moon, and coming up with creative ways to use wildshape was very satisfying! At the end of the campaign, Gwydion became the leader of a (formerly) all-female druid circle called the Horned Wood Coven, and introduced some gender-binary-smashing reforms. I think they were level 16 or so. What's even more exciting is that our current campaign, which is set in the same world about 65 years later, will need to consult with the Horned Wood Coven as part of our mission, and because Gwydion is half-elf they're almost certainly still alive and still the leader of the coven. We'll probably meet Gwydion as an NPC next week - I'm so stoked!

Tiefling warlock named Bel. Her patron was an archfey, also her wife. Her arcane focus was her wedding ring. She started out as a high-class conwoman trying to lay low in a tavern after almost getting caught. By the end of the campaign, she had managed to 1) unleash the endless void upon the prime material plane by breaking a mechanical crab, the party only surviving because her wife teleported them out of danger 2) turn what was supposed to be a deadly encounter with a huge swarm of specters into basically a carnival game by using her fear effect - which NONE of them saved against - so that the other party members with magic/magic weapons could pick them off one by one, and 3) become one of the gods of a new universe by staring into the void and completely comprehending it. As a goddess, her followers practice nihilism and live by the ancient proverb "be gay, do crimes."
My signature actually refers to this campaign, haha.

First ever TTRPG charcater was a Dwarf (in a German RPG called Das Schwarze Auge - which was very similar to D&D). There were no classes for playing a non human (Dwarf or Elf). and I have played him through a lot of modules that were also published with the game. Must have been 1984. Can't remember then name right now, but I remember the character portrait I drew: he had a glorious big moustache.
The first ever character in the D&D world (it was AD&D at that time, so 2nd edition) was a human cleric called Astinus (after a character from the Dragonlance saga). Must have been around 87 or 88 (before 89, when Spelljammer came out and that was my transition to being the D&D GM full time).
Oh, somewhere back in the early 80s my brother and I found my parent's original blue box D&D and promptly rolled up characters. I had a mage who was named Raistlin...yea Dragonlance was a huge influence for me. He died when I tried to use a touch attack spell against a Lich...
Tarron of Kennu. A tank barbarian. 18 str 15-18 con BUT INT was 10. The group treated me like a ****** (I've seen Grog and I know I was smart enough to act) I had wicked climbing skills. However, Lost to the sands of time and how soured by playing barbarians because of the group. I came back in 5e. I've played so far a Sun Soul Monk in AL. Also made a Gnome fighter that acts like Rocket Racoon (I know Gnome bad idea for a fighter, But Archer and Gunslinger idea.) But I don't trust Rogues or Clerics in and out of games.

Eleven - Wood Elf - Druid
Damora - Cambion - Fighter
Blue - Tabaxi - Rogue
Nornalore - Half-Elf - Sorcerer/Barbarian
AD&D Dwarf Assassin with a garrote. I think he needed to sneak up behind the target with a step ladder to use it.
