No-one needs to be assaulted by a random band of orcs in the middle of the desert! No-one cares what plot reasons you have for a peryton to descend from the sky. Random encounters are dumb - oh goodness, I'm being attacked by an ochre jelly in an encounter that was entirely random! Hellllpppppp!

But sometimes an encounter that appears random can actually have a reason behind it.

19. Players "godmodding" other players—saying they do something to another player as if it succeeds such as taking all of the party gold and throwing it into a random lake nobody knows where. (Funny in what I saw, but ugh if it happened to my parties.)
The DM has had to stop the repeat offending player and ask the affected players if they allowed stuff the offending player stated would happen. I've yet to see any DM "godmodding" players beyond a description of what actually happens for a player's attempted actions, but it would surprise me if there haven't been situations where the DM made decisions for the players as a means to railroad a story. (I saw a DM use a killbox to railroad a story. The last few people who were still alive quit the campaign before the end in a self-created TPK.)
Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.

Didn’t WOTC do a whole adventure based on this?
