I went and saw the thing. It was a fun experience =)
Have you seen the 80s cartoon?
I liked the thing too.
I did watch the 80s cartoon on Saturday mornings. I think I preferred Thundarrr the Barbarian, but the D&D cartoon wasn't bad. Although for the life of me I can only remember (and I don't know if it's a real memory) one scene from the whole series. I think it was the series finale maybe, but Venger was restrained in some sort of energy pillory thing, and the party could have left him for dead, I think Tiamat was about to eat him, but Hank opted to let him go. Did that happen?
My real cartoons were week days the Force Five anime anthology show.
Personally for me when I got LoTr and the hobbit it 2 years ago I found the hobbit very entertaining and I read through it very fast, I’m still on LoTr, for me it’s hard to read, not in the way that it’s complicated and big words but just I get pretty bored while reading it, it was good while it lasted just it didn’t really get anywhere.
That's what I usually hear. "I enjoyed The Hobbit, couldn't get into Lord of the Rings."
The Hobbit, very much feels like a story that's easier to read. While Lord of the Rings, almost reads like a historical story. Lord of the Rings delves much more into the lore and history of each area, each character, etc., while The Hobbit felt very straight forward story.
That's pretty much my experience with the series. Though it took me close to a year to finish The Hobbit, since I kept stalling at the slower parts. My sibling owns the entire trilogy so I plan to read LotR but there's such a huge lore dump right at the start, which tbh is kind of a chore to get through.
I absolutely loved The Hobbit, and I'm sure I'll love LotR, but I find the latter to be much harder to get into.
You mean the one where the DM has Tiamat attack the party at 1st level?
I've watched 1 episode. I want to watch the rest at some point but it isn't a high-priority show for me. Will probably have one or two of the show's characters appear as cameos in my campaign, idk.
Was something to do with the cartoon revealed last Direct? I recall they mentioned Venger returning

Yes. Honestly, Venger would be a far more compelling BBEG than Vecna for me. It feels like WotC is late to the Vecna train after Crit Role and Stranger Things had him be the BBEG of their series.

It'd be neat to see Venger, but Vecna is probably more recognisable, and is badass in his own way. Personally I'm pretty excited to see Vecna's return.
I would use Vecna in my campaign but I missed out on the dossier promotion, so I guess I'll have to homebrew my own stat block or find some other way to access it
Wow. It is awfully silent here. Time to break that silence.
Question: Have you ever done in depth research into a subject that you don't usually go into for D&D? If so, what did you study?
Hi, I’m Toni. I have a doctorate in Sociology, a Masters in Psychology, and a Masters in Religion.
My professional specialty is predictive modeling across sociocultural systems.
I had planned to be an elementary school teacher. But thanks to some silly game that I played ALL THE TIME I ended up learning the above and then a half dozen bachelor’s degrees on top of it.
Granted, the rest of my life experience was kinda pushing me that way anyway, but it was D&D that made me do it. So, yes.
Yes, I have, Yes I do, yes, I will, lol. I popped in here to ask for ideas in one post that died fast about additional lore around herbs and plants — and I have six, yes, six, books on herb lore.
All my favorite books are reference books, lol. I always recommend 3:
Encyclopedia of Occultism by Spence, The New York Public Library Desk Reference, and The Timetables of History by Grun. I will often add in Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, but always say get a version from before 2000.
So, um, my whole freaking life is a constant research project to help me do better with D&D stuff, lol.

Apparently, they are going to release a block for Venger and others to match the revival of the 80’s cartoon that is in production right now. It was briefly mentioned in that thing they just did end of last month.
And Vecna has an entire adventure set coming out about him.

That acrobat is at least 6th level. In AD&D the acrobat was, I think relatively unique among classes, in that you played a thief for 5 levels, then took acrobat if your DEX and maybe some other stats made the prerequisites. But yes a arguably Tier 2 in 5e terms party routinely encountering and ducking and maybe thwarting Tiamat did happen on the cartoon.

Sheesh. Wow. Almost had to remind myself that you're an actual, real human being and not some ethereal being capable of granting the world's wisdom within the space of a moderately-sized block of text. That's one hell of a lot of qualifications and life experience... how??

I went and saw the movie too. It was a fun story, but the inner Realms historian in me was a *bit* angry.
I’ve seen bits of the cartoon and I love it.
Additionally, (and controversially) I enjoyed the 2000 D&D movie. It was enjoyable for me. I could explain my thoughts on it, but honestly, if you don’t like it you don’t like it, and no explanation can change that lol.
I just went and saw the movie today and thought it was great.
I think it would be funny if they did a sequel with all the same actors, but with different characters, as if they were starting a new campaign but with the same players. They probably won't do that though.
Edit: I wish attunement worked the way it did in the movie.
By throwing a hammer of thunderbolts at the stone block till it breaks. But seriously I just read good book. If I can finish a good book then I will become super ambitious about my plans. A little too ambitious actuslly

But really, something that works well is to never scrap ideas. No matter how big or small the idea may be, if you write it down somewhere then odds are good you'll have a chance to use it sooner or later, even if it's only for a specific context.

You mean writer's block? At least that's what I have always called it. Anyways, I usually stop writing or drawing or whatever art form I am doing, and move on. I read, I watch, I look at other people's art and hope it inspires me. Looking through other artists' work can really help, but I find it important to make sure I am enjoying a variety of different artists. Otherwise, if I read too much of one author, all my writing will start to mirror theirs in not a good type of way. My characters will be too similar, my stories will be copies of their work. I need to make sure I go through a variety of artists or else I will just be writing poorly done copies of their work. Like it says in my signature, everything I write uses 100% recycled words. If I only read one author, I will be practically just writing down the same words they used in the same order. I won't be creating anything new.
I also find it important to make sure the art I am absorbing is good art. Sometimes writer's block originates from consuming "trashy" artwork. It's like junk food. Some books are healthy salads like Tolkien and Pratchett, while others can be more fun to consume, like Rick Riordan or J. K. Rowling, but it is easy to "overeat" with them. They aren't very healthy meals, more like the Doritos of art. You are what you eat, likewise, your work is what you read.
I hope that made sense. This is ridiculous. I am giving advice on writer's block when I have left the ending of a four to five page short story unfinished for months because I can't figure out the ending. Oh well. It will come to me eventually.
There's this cool new thing called the internet. Believe it or not, you don't even need a dictionary! You can just dial up mahalito.com and it'll have all the knowledge in the universe.
