Last time I counted (last year) there were, across the globe, around 7,000 distinct genders.
Most of them are a variant of either Agender or Non-binary in a "how do we classify them all" sense. Sady, a lot of my job involves classification so that I can direct more resources towards TGD folks. After my work on the SoC 7, I really started pushing into improving resources.
Happily, It thrills me because nothing excites me more than the sheer diversity of humanity as a whole let loose and free.

Back in my day, there were only two genders, and everyone was too afraid of being ostracized to do anything about it!
And goddamnit, we... were miserable.

If this weren't DDB, I would probably mention that back in my day there were four genders and two of them were for making miserable folks more miserable, but go into detail...

All my characters are male as well. Think it's just easier to rp
Same. I typically feel more comfortable and have more fun when roleplaying as someone with the same gender as me.
I always thought I was the same until I started DMing and had to play many NPCs with different genders from me. Funnily enough, I also used to be terrified of teaching until I had to do it for my degree. Maybe I was just lucky in that by not having much choice, I got to work through those initial reservations quickly, getting right to the 'loving it’ part. Now I thoroughly enjoy trying to see a world through eyes of those very different from my own.

I'm a DM too. But I still feel more comfortable for my character to be male when I can choose as a player. But you never know, maybe this will change over time or with more experience.

Oh, I know you are a DM, BB. What pushed me outside of my comfort zone and into what became a new comfort zone is definitely not going to be the same catalyst for everyone, if there is even a catalyst for an individual at all. Some people simply don't enjoy playing PCs that hold a different gender identity than they do and I do not think that is a bad thing at all. Some people don't enjoy playing PCs that are a different sex than they are as well and I also think that is just fine. What matters to me is that players play what they are interested in and what helps them crack a PC open and ask 'who are you? Let's explore that.' That's the sauce.
I hope you didn't take my response as an implied message that if you DM, you should be okay with playing PCs that don't share your gender. That was not my intention at all.

Maybe that's why I play basically all of them, my identity is confusing, even to myself, mostly to others though.

I (mis)interpreted it as something along the lines of: “If you try DMing, it might make it so that you feel more comfortable roleplaying like this.” Because wasn’t 100% sure that you knew I was a Dungeon Master, so I decided to clarify.
Anyways, I appreciate you explaining what you meant. :)

here are some of my favorite characters, who are all siblings.
Lonely is a they/them
Lost is he/they
Hungry is she/they
and although I haven’t played these on the forums, here are the other two siblings:
Wretched is he/they
Angry is she/they.
now onto my other characters!
Caleb is He/him
Alexandria is She/her
Ekorre is they/them
Bellerophon is He/him
Phantasos is He/him
Calico is He/him
Oriel is She/her
Uzan is he/him
Charlie is He/him
Corvin is He/him
and I can’t think of anything else right now! I’m only including their pronouns because I’m probably not informed enough to know about anything else I’m talking about.

I mostly play with family and my dad has a rule that you can only play your cisgender and he is the only DM (other than baalze but he doesn't dm very often) so all my DND characters are girls so far but some of them do have little quirks about it that have gone unnoticed.
Olive(unintroduced) prefers female pronouns but accepts all pronouns (partially since it is hard to tell what gender they are)
ember is basically the same story as Olive, but since they're in a party of boys they prefer "she/her" or "it" to avoid any confusion
yep. only two characters. thats all the dnd characters I have
