Well I think Nothic is talking about specifically cults created from jokes here on DDB (e.g Jeff Cult) that nobody else would get. Versus a cult created from some external media (e.g the Hollow Knight Cult).

Ah ok. Where would my Kimiko cult fall?
I mean, it's not really an inside joke and more a general concept that can be instantly understood regardless of whether or not you were there for its creation. Meanwhile if I didn't have a link to the sequence that led to Jeff's creation, people would probably be a lot more confused by it.

That makes sense. I know I was confused when I first saw it.

Perhaps the decline of the off topic forums is sort of here to stay. Maybe even eventual death.
My quotes thread is just people making a ton of references to things no one else knows (most of the time) or just quoting random conversations on threads or real conversations they had with no context. I think most of us are guilty of contributing to these problems in one way or another.
All of these problems previously mentioned are, at this point, very baked into the off topic forums. I think the MDGA was a nice idea, but now I think it’s sort of silly to actually start a club and all that. As far as the wider population goes, D&D is not widely played (although definitely not unknown), D&D Beyond, it’s digital counterpart is not as popular compared to physical games and rules,* then you have the forums of this site digital counterpart, and then the off topic part of these forums. What I’m trying to say is that it seems kinda small and insignificant when you think about it. Not speaking for everyone, but to me it almost seems to be a waste of time to spend any significant time on here at this point, this applies almost all of the time, but better to just stay offline. I tried to delete my account a while ago, and it would be if wizards didn’t make it so difficult.
I don’t mean to insult anyone here, this is just how I see the situation, most of the posters are here are chill and I’ve had some nice chats with
*mostly guessing for these claims, like I don’t have statistical proof

Hey morons, idk if half of the current posters will even recognize me, but I was idle scrolling probably just from old muscle memory from the good old days (read: 3 years ago) and saw this thread and decided **** it I’ll post. If you recognize me haii and if you don’t let my post count be proof of my experience on ddb. I’ll be saying my thoughts regardless if someone else has already said them.
Adohands is in a worse place now than it was 2 or 3 years ago. I don’t think anyone can argue with me on that. I think the beginning of the end for this one was, as much as I hate to say it, Onions. It was Sel’s (a new forum goer) first thread about some random dumb thought they had and we just ran with it and made it a new therapy/chat thread, and for a while there was nothing wrong with it. But with new people that weren’t around before it set an awful example that ddb was this casual internet void full of nerds that you can just talk to when it wasn’t back then and I sincerely hope it isn’t now. Back then the biggest thread was the DAO, which by itself was a lovely thread but also set a bad example. In the DAO we were rping as teens because that’s what the premise was, but to new kids it gave the false impression that Adohands is a place for teens to do teen things because DAO was the “face” of Adohands at the time. Skipping forwards a lot to the Baalze vs Cyno drama, a lot of the more experienced taverners who in the cycle would’ve explained how Adohands works to new people had either already left or were in the process of leaving, meaning the newer taverners didn’t really have a good example for how to act, which I ultimately believe led to the overflow of low effort, pointless threads that exist today. Taverners today don’t know what makes a good thread or why old ones succeeded while new ones aren’t. The difference is blatantly visible when you compare the taverns of today with those that I got my posts on. I had close to 400 days on Adohands before I posted my first Tavern (Demonweb), as taverns back then were big projects by experienced taverners with lots of lore explaining the world, even if it was a tavern based on an established ip, and a defined setting and set of rules to guide roleplayers. Respect is another one. The people Drummer reffered to as the 2022 crew had mutual respect between each other and defined hard rules, a big one being no pvp without consent and no killing others’ characters, no matter what. Even if you don’t like the person, even if the person is being annoying, both of you are mature and can storming figure it out without drama and bull**** and taking sides to try to divide all of adohands to either my side or their side.
Have a lovely day, Jesus loves you, Monks out.

My Drummer given title is Swift as the Dragon, but The Diabolical One named me Virex the Whisperbrand, Architect of Echoes May the dice roll ever in your favor

Have a lovely day, Jesus loves you, Monks out.

...is it bad that I made possibly one of the original cults created for this purpose? (Or maybe not, I don't know much about the cults that came before me, but I do feel the Jeff cult may have had at least a decent contribution to this)

I mean, isn’t that what almost all cults are about?

Aig amannan bidh mi air mo ghlacadh ro mhòr an-dràsta...Well I think Nothic is talking about specifically cults created from jokes here on DDB (e.g Jeff Cult) that nobody else would get. Versus a cult created from some external media (e.g the Hollow Knight Cult).

Aig amannan bidh mi air mo ghlacadh ro mhòr an-dràsta...I mean, it's not really an inside joke and more a general concept that can be instantly understood regardless of whether or not you were there for its creation. Meanwhile if I didn't have a link to the sequence that led to Jeff's creation, people would probably be a lot more confused by it.

Aig amannan bidh mi air mo ghlacadh ro mhòr an-dràsta...Perhaps the decline of the off topic forums is sort of here to stay.
That’s fair.
