The actual correct plural of platypus is platypodes, not platypuses, but people have been saying platypuses anyway and now everyone thinks it's a word. Not part of wishing or twisting, just thought that was an interesting fact I felt like pointing out.

I wish people would use the proper terms for the plurals of weird nouns like paddles of platypodes, groups (sadly, there's no actual specific name for a group of octopodes, as they don't tend to hang out in groups very much) of octopodes, and bloats of hippopotamuses.
(I'm pretty sure the correct term is actually octopuses, something about it having greek roots rather then latin [I think, it might have been the other way around].)
