Have you seen the threads about katanas in this forum?
No, actually, but I haven't been searching. I thought an entire edition of removal would have dulled some of that edge, especially since a large portion of 5e players haven't played earlier editions. Which threads are notable?
*There was a massive (100+ page) flame war that took place on the old WotC forums in the 3e years about game stats for katanas. The ban hammer came down hard.
Oh yeah, I remember that. There was a point where the forum's filters would automatically flag your post if they detected the word "katana" in it.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Bad idea: bringing up katanas on forums. (My bad.)
That's it. I'm sick of all this "talking about katanas is bad" bullshit that's going on in the D&D Beyond system right now. Talking about katanas deserves much better than that. Much, much better than that.
I should know what I'm talking about. I myself participated in the great flame wars of 3e in the U.S. for 600 minutes (that's about 10 hours) and have been angry about it for almost 2 years now. I can even derail unrelated threads with my talk about katana.
Moderators spend years working on banning due to a single katana thread and ban up to a million fanboys to produce the finest flame wars known to mankind.
Katanas are thrice as controversial as European swords and thrice as hard to stat for that matter too. Any controversy a longsword can create, a katana can create better. I'm pretty sure a katana discussion could easily cause a breakdown in the fabric of the internet.
Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to engage the hordes of fanboys and their katana arguments of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the katana fanboys first because their complaining power was feared and annoying.
So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best accelerant that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better kerfuffles in the D&D Beyond system. Here is the stat block I propose for Katana fanboys:
Large swarm of small humanoids Str 6, Wis 1, Cha 2 -2 to hit 1d6 psychic damage Regenerates far too often
Now that seems a lot more representative of the annoying power of katana fanboys in real life, don't you think?
tl;dr = Katana threads need to do more damage in D&D Beyond, see my new stat block.

I have experienced this. Katanas are very controversial for some reason.
A bad idea is WotC publishing a katana in a sourcebook.
