I'm really ticked at DDB right now. Not a fan of them planning to just remove spells/magic items that I currently have and force on the 5.5 versions I didn't want to buy.

Reading through the changelog, and also what Davyd said, anything that's in the upcoming PHB will replace current stuff.
So you're playing a cleric with Spiritual Weapon, whether you want it or not, your character sheet is gonna make it concentration. And so on.

There's a lot of angry people saying the same thing right now. I hope they change course, but WotC just lost all its goodwill that it had from me when it comes to the benefit of the doubt.

You're missing the part where it says, for example, that if you have healing word prepared that it will be replaced with the new version.
You can also look at the "What if I want to use 2014 spells and magic items" section that says "Homebrew it."

Your character has Healing Word prepared and you want to cast the spell. When you click on the spell on your character sheet, you will see the new version of Healing Word. However, you can still find the old version of Healing Word in your copy of the Basic Rules and the 2014 Player’s Handbook in the compendium.

If you wish to use the old version of a magic item or spell that has been replaced by its 2024 counterpart, you will need to create a homebrew copy of it and enable homebrew content on your character sheet. Then, you can add it to your character sheet.
It is not possible to create homebrew versions of mundane equipment. However, the only significant change to weapons is the addition of mastery properties. You will still need the appropriate feat or class feature to utilize a weapon’s mastery property. Mundane armor will not be affected by changes in the D&D Beyond toolset.
