I think there’s an HP Lovecraft story about an immortal sorcerer who curses the bloodline of someone who offended him, making it so that all the males in his family wouldn’t live past 30 or something. The curse comes true, and the main character is about to be the target of the curse. It is then revealed that all this time, the sorcerer was personally going and killing the family members and I’m not entirely sure but I think the sorcerer dies and the main character finds his corpse outside his house while he was trying to sneak in or something. This might not be entirely accurate, but this is the funniest way to tell it.
The Sorcerer’s name was Charles Le Sorcier.
