I saw more Next Gen. I also know my father has a liking for Voyager with Janeway as possibly his favorite captain.

As a fun fact you know the scene where Kirk opens a thing, gets loaded with tribbles, and then more keep falling periodically on him? The periodic ones weren't planned. But the backstage people played a prank on William Shatner by just keeping them coming. So Kirk's bemused/annoyed look is genuine from Shatner.
And then in the DS9 episode they retconned it into being the DS9 crew checking various tribbles for a bomb and throwing them down.
