So I had this idea: a campaign where the players are all diminished (ie. shadow or undead) versions of mythic heroes of the past, complete with them each having a custom scaling magic item. Think like if the Chosen Undead of Dark Souls or the Tarnished in Elden Ring were a hero in ages past, and still had some of their gear.
I was also thinking that it would take place in the Shadowfell, and that in addition to the magic items they would be able to upgrade their bodies by adapting to the hostile environment at the cost of becoming more like the monsters they fight.

That sounds great! Would you use the Ravenloft setting or just homebrew the Shadowfell?

I really like D&D, especially Ravenloft, Exandria and the Upside Down from Stranger Things. My pronouns are she/they (genderfae).

I made my own homebrew lore for the shadowfell and I’m working on lore for the feywild.
That sounds great too! Do you see the Feywild and the Shadowfell as like mirror images of each other?
Yep! The feywild is the plane of emotion, and the source of all of it in existence. The shadowfell is the plane of despair and bleakness. The shadowfell basically captures excess emotion. The lords of the shadowfell, the dark powers, (there are 5 dark powers) feed off of negative emotions, while the other emotions are destroyed. Sorrowsworn are created by the dark powers basically to help the plane capture emotions. When a creature is filled with extreme emotions, usually only happening when they commit some sort o truly evil act, such as Strahd killing his brother, the shadowfell sucks them and the surrounding area into the shadowfell, where they become darklords. If the feywild didn’t exist, neither would emotion, and if the shadowfell didn’t exist, emotions would never stop, only become stronger. The feywild is also the plane of nature, and the shadowfell is also the plane of death.

I love that. That’s pretty much how I feel about the Feywild and the Shadowfell, but articulated much better than I ever could. Do you have Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft? It’s like the ultimate setting guide to the Shadowfell. I wish they would do one for the Feywild. I mean, they have Wild Beyond the Witchlight, but that’s really just an adventure that focuses on one small part of the Feywild.

I do have van richten’s. If i ever wrote a book, it would be a guide to the feywild. My feywild world has the seelie and unseelie courts, each being made up of two more courts, the spring and summer, and the winter and autumn courts. Each season court has one ruler, along with 5 other important Archfey, and then the unseelie and seelie courts each have 5 main Archfey, which include the rulers of the season courts and the rulers of those courts, as well as tons of other named Archfey that aren’t as important but still have stories and then there are tons of Archfey that aren’t part of any court but are still very powerful. I don’t have details for everything yet, but I’m working on it.

I think its a cool idea. In my setting goblinoids are originally from the feywild, but I haven’t elaborated on it much further.
also, in my setting and just in all games I run, trolls, displacer beasts, and unicorns are all Fey.
