I've been thinking about magic systems, and I had an idea: occultism. A mix of demented protoscience and esotericism.
Necromancy is a field of medicine and a style of construction, as, after all, the vitae that keeps us all alive cannot truly differentiate between flesh and metal, right? Illusion and Enchantment are types of psychology that involve projecting delusions onto others with your eyes and skin. Libation is a type of cooking that draws divine power from outsiders. Demonology calls the Darkness and grants you the service of its generals and scholars from the deep.
Of course, all of that stuff is illegal. Only the magic of the Guiding Light (which both it and its magic are mental constructs created by humanity's belief in a higher power) is allowed.

Necromancy termites.
Tempermites are a breed of communal insect that is known for draining the humors out of corpses and running them through their hives, animating them into horrific monsters to hunt down the weak and devour them, thus feeding the colony.
They wouldn't be much of a threat if they didn't spawn from any rotten wood in dark spaces.
