Refuting it as being from above, not dark kind of makes me think of Reverorum Ib Malacht. They were a black metal band that decided to study Catholicism so they could blaspheme more effectively in their lyrics. But, in a twist of fate, their studying caused a change of heart and caused them to instead convert to Catholicism and become a Christian metal band.
