There are a lot of cool vampires in mythology and they are very varied. I love taking them and using them in stories.
It's a shame that most people just use the basic vampire and forget about what makes them actually scary.
It really is. There are so many fun vampires that would spice up any story. Take the Asanbosam for example. They had iron teeth and their feet were hooks. They used the hooks to hang upside down from trees and would drop down to suck the blood of any creature that walked under them. And then there are the Manduruga, vampire aswang who marry into communities and then suck blood through a proboscis-like tongue. Vampire vegetables are also fun.
The Adventure Time series, Stakes, was really fun because it had a bunch of really unique vampires with a lot of cool designs and abilities.
