RP wise I don't really have much time on my hands so I'll try.
So, last night I was reading GURPS Biotech (GURPS has some great inspiration hidden behind its mechanically dense covers) and I came up with something for the Darkest Kitchen setting I'm working on.
So basically, there are two major forces that make this world different: Gourmet Energy, a reality-warping force that is spawned from sapient minds, and Szerukites, a type of organelle that allows the entity containing them to harness Gourmet Energy.
The Gourmet Nightmare began to spill open into our world when the Cauldron of Creation was brought to earth, causing the release of massive amounts of stored-up Gourmet Energy in the minds of humans. As a result, many things formerly relegated to the Nightmare exclusively became notable presences on Earth. These places and life forms were notably very delicious, thus giving rise to the name "Gourmet Energy." Yes, I said that the places were delicious, as even the molten magma was like a fine consommé. Of course, all the best stuff was still inside the Gourmet Nightmare itself, where the Gourmet Energy is the strongest.
A normal creature can't harness Gourmet Energy unless they have Szerukites, which happen to be found exclusively in Nightmare life forms. So how do you get Szerukites? Well, simple, you eat things that already have them. However, Szerukites are attuned to specific frequencies of Gourmet Energy, so without very specific and scientifically advanced procedures resembling genetic surgery, you primarily will gain the power of what you ate, or at least a thematically similar power.

My BIGG BÜK OF FÜD (known as Fat Magic) shall be arriving in the coming weeks... theoretically.
To quote the authors directly:
"The book layout is progressing steadily but sickness and day job shenanigans have set our schedule back a few weeks. Our designer says the book should be done in the next 2-3 weeks, after which we'll be proofing and sending the PDF your way — just in time for the holiday season!"
They've missed deadlines before (the book was supposed to be out last year) but right now I'm going to be happy and excited for a little bit.
