My largest running D&D 5e campaign has just voted to end b/c of mounting disillusion. I'm not doing too hot as the now former DM. 2.5 years of weekly sessions went well...

That's not very nice. Why?
First of all, 1217 scaring damage is a lot, but could I take resistence on it since I was expecting it?
Also my group had very valid compouding reasons for the end of our campaign, it just felt like an ambush. I love my players to death, and its sad to see them go (especially b/c of all the prep I had done for storylines they'll now never complete), but I was able to have lots of fun with them over the course of the campaigns (LMoP and a heavily modified SKT).
I'm sure in time I'll be more ok with the situation, but at the time it was like a break-up. They sat me down and explained their reasoning...

I am sorry to hear that. I'm sure as you now, all good things have both a beginning, and an end. But that doesn't mean we stop hoping, or dreaming, or loving. Always look for the good things, you'll find more that way :)

I don't know why we're talking about religion, all I think is that we should stop in case someone hurts others feelings or worse. I'm weird in religion terms myself, as I believe that there are gods but don't worship them personally. Then again, I believe there are such things as dragons and ghosts, and I am kind of superstitious as well. I don't want to sound like a moderator, but could we cut religious talk on forums please?
