Two out of five of my players put actually zero effort into their characters. I mean like, not even a name was given, and when prompted, one player said literally nothing regardless of what I said (this was in person, by the way) and the other said that they'll only put effort into it after we've been playing for a long time and I've shown that it's going to be a long-term game. On one hand, I understand the second player's reasoning. On the other hand, actually having a character by next week would be really nice.
Sometimes I wish I didn't have to run games for my family.
Viper, of course, has an amazing character.
The final two players at least have the beginnings of their characters, which is enough to start the game with.
I will have to hold a second session zero next week.
I could never have a productive dnd session irl which is why I love ddb.

I have the opposite problem. I can't focus on a tavern or PBP for long enough for people to actually enjoy it.
I tried playing dnd in person with my brother and it absolutely sucked — that was before I realized that dnd was more than just rolling dice and getting killed by bugbears
