My name’s Gradius, this is my second account :P I love Hollow Knight and I have been on ddb for a while. Come rp with me anytime! It is my purpose. My title that was given to me by Drummer is…SPIRIT OF THE WEST, GUARDIAN OF THE HOLLOWS.
No cost too great. No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering. Born of God and Void.
Now I kinda wanna know, do you guys think I have a distinct style or am I like a pile of messy spaghetti smeared all over the place like I think I am?
I suck at putting words together, but I can try my best...
Buttons' Best is a great example of what I interpret as your style. A sort of "this is awesome, but what if...?" where you take a concept that your average 12-year-old would take at face value and adore, but you explore it and twist it and detail its recesses where no one would likely even see. You have these secrets and twists and turns, all written from the perspective of the character as opposed to the reality of what happened, which is something I personally struggle with.
This is an awesome input. Thank your for your feedback my food friendo.

All these questions make me curious, what do you all think of as my sort of “style,” if I have one?
Tim Burton mixed with a little bit of Junji Ito. A Grimm original.
You play out like an absolutely demented fairy tale. You don't so much twist things as brighten their true colors. Drizzle them in sweet syrup and feed them to Hansel to fatten him up, and then bake him once he's digested the frogs and soot covering up your pearls and diamonds. You've got a creativity that probably surpasses my own, but you follow established structures. You color inside the lines, but then you add more colors and brighter ones than anyone expected.
I should explain further: How would you describe what I represent, in your eyes? Imagine me and my writing were an art piece or a piece of media you are examining.
Wow, that sounds really conceited and selfish when I say it out loud.
I understand. I wish I had a distinct style like you that’s been so fleshed out. But like I said before, you almost always base your things off of well researched irl factors which is awesome, then you throw in some creepiness and an edge to it.
Another large part of your style is completely polar to mine. You take things nobody would ever think of but that are still awesome and use them to make something that’s your own. Ex: I’ve done things with stereotypical cowboys and a ghost ship, whereas you’ve done things with honey mummies and demon chefs.

I swear there used to be a bundle on DDB for the three core books. But now I'm wondering if that ever existed and if I'm just remembering bundles for the physical books elsewhere.

I confess it's a shame, When you livin' in a city that's the size of a box and nobody knows yo' name
I should explain further: How would you describe what I represent, in your eyes? Imagine me and my writing were an art piece or a piece of media you are examining.
Wow, that sounds really conceited and selfish when I say it out loud.
I mean, you're the creater of The Universe Smörgåsbord, right? I haven't seen a ton of your roleplays but I know that world for a fact is super cool, it carries a really creepy and horror-type vibe that feels more natural and thought out then like "ooo haunted house", yk?
Idk if this answers your representation question but I kinda imagine your writing, as art, to be these ginormous oil paintings with grey and blues to paint this desolate, dystopian background with accents of reds and oranges from volcanos exploding or something. And then in the foreground there is this weird, eerie, absolutely epic creature standing there, looking out on the world in front of them.
I don't really know how to describe it, but at least for The Universe Smörgåsbord forum, it feels like you put in details in the right spots while leaving out details too in just the right way so that you can perfectly imagine the world while leaving room for interpretation at the same time.
Wow that's a bit of a rant haha sorry-

I'd say that you dont necessarily have a style, rather you just play your characters really really well. They all feel really unique in the way they talk especially, you always seem very dedicated to speech patterns and little things they do while talking (ex: Casey with his eyes glowing in specific scenarios) I know that while I was reading the description for Buttons Best I was particularly impressed with how smooth everything went, almost like I could close my eyes and actually be there. (problem is, my eyes kinda have to be open to read haha, but you get what I'm trying to say)
I dunno, I feel like it's less about a style and kinda more about expectation? Like, in all the interactions I've seen with your characters, they have appeared very smooth and natural, not forced in any way. It seems like you truly do become your characters whenever you roleplay, which is exactly why you don't necessarily have a style. You have things you typically do though, like making your characters imperfect, giving them a bad side, also making them all guys? That might count towards style, but I'm not sure.
Yikes idk if any of that made sense-
