Demogorgon. King of demons vs. a run-of-the-mill archdevil? No contest.
Alright but hear me out… Zariel is the same CR and she has regeneration, while Demogorgon doesn’t.
That's a quirk of the way 5e has presented them. They're given stats that make sense for their respective adventures, but not globally. In 3e, the Savage Tide adventure path had Demogorgon so powerful that it took the combined effort of many other demon lords to bring him down. Besides, if Zariel were equally as powerful as Demogorgon, the Blood War would be easily won by the devils.
