I've finally done it, I found the philosophical theory that I fall under!
Do share!
Existentialism, the idea that there is no inherent truth, morality, or meaning in the universe, and that's it is up to each person to make their own meaning in life. It sounds like a depressing pessimistic theory at first but it's actually kinda comforting thinking theres no inherent meaning so you must find your own
That does sound comforting, actually!
anyways, I’ve had a busy but quite awesome day! I Don’t have school tomorrow.
on the other hand, I think I might have a bit of a ✨problem✨ with being a perfectionist! Fun, right?
Fun indeed, twinsies! :|
My perfectionism comes in the form of starting and never finishing songs, or eternally tweaking and editing them because I'm never satisfied with it
How fun!
my perfectionism is all about grades and being ✨a model student✨, and being ✨everyone’s favorite✨
it’s like, Good Girl Syndrome, kinda.
Ah yeah I get that, I feel that pressure a bit but I dont follow through with it lol I'm just a meh student, like c or b average. I have no enemies though, so at least theres that (I'm not everyone's favorite though)
I’m a straight A student, and luckily I’m fairly sure all of my teachers love me. this also means that when teachers are mad at a class, even when it isn’t specifically me, it stresses me out a tonnnnnnn
xD
I remember those days. Teacher chewing out the class and you feel like they're gunning for you.
I do not miss it.
That actually happened today, four times, with different teachers. None were directed at me, but them being angry combined with the fact I really don’t like loud noises was ✨very bad✨
on the bright side, I am one of the favorite students of all of those four teachers, so I know it’s mostly not directed at me anyways. Although sometimes that just makes it worse.
I feel you bro. I was a straight A student too but I took it way too seriously. Still struggle with academic perfectionism but I've gotten better about it (I'm also not taking classes this semester so I've got a nice break). Do your best and work hard, but remember that mistakes will happen and they won't ruin your life. It is harder when your class has much lower standards.
Thank thee for the kind words!
anyways, let’s move on to a lighter subject, shall we?
I’m preparing to audition for my school’s musical class (which is different from the musical theatre class I take already, one is learning about, practicing, and preparing yourself for musical theatre, the one I need to audition for is actually doing musical theatre) so I’ve found a song and I’m almost done finding a monologue to do. I’m very excited.
Oooh what song?
As for a monologue, I'm partial to the classic To be or not to be. Had to memorize some of that back in 7th grade.
If you remember, I believe I talked about it a while ago, Consider yourself, from Oliver the Musical. I thought about doing Adelaide’s lament from guys and dolls, but I hadn’t memorized it yet.
for monologues, I actually have been deciding between two monologues: one is Veruca Salt from Willy Wonka and The Chocolate factory, and the other is… drumroll please, the witch’s monologue from Macbeth! Double double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble, that.
I remember you did an audition with Consider Yourself. So you'll be doing it again?
I will say my favorite variation on the witches' opening comes from Terry Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters. I don't remember the *exact* wording but it goes something like this.
A voice cried out, "When shall we three meet again?" And then another, far less dramatically replied, "I could do next Tuesday."
"It was a very good cackle." said another. "Thanks. I've been practicing it."
Yep! Although that wasn’t an audition, it was a test for my theatre class, we had a whole unit about audition songs.
I've finally done it, I found the philosophical theory that I fall under!

Existentialism, the idea that there is no inherent truth, morality, or meaning in the universe, and that's it is up to each person to make their own meaning in life. It sounds like a depressing pessimistic theory at first but it's actually kinda comforting thinking theres no inherent meaning so you must find your own
That is the logical conclusion if you believe there is no God.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that mean that a serial rapist hasn't really done anything bad because there is no inherent bad or good? If they find meaning in life through abusing others to achieve their own pleasure, and that is what is right to them, then how can you judge? I'm not trying to bully you or anything, this has just always been the problem I've had with existentialism. That and the fact that nothing actually matters.
The question though is if they find genuine meaning in that. Just because someone believes something to be wrong doesn't mean they wouldn't do it anyways. I do also think while there isn't inherent meaning, there are some things that are more difficult to find meaning in. And I would say that nothing matters is more of a nihilistic view than an existentialist view, nihilism argues for the utter absence of morals and truth, but existentialism focuses on the personal level of finding truth and meaning for yourself. I think a good example is The Stranger by Albert Camus, where a man who holds no beliefs and preconceived notions, and has no connection to the normal conventions of societal morality, kills a man for reasons entirely unfathomable to everyone else, because they see the world through societally conditioned eyes (I believe it had to do with the fact that the light was in his eyes, and he wanted it to not be). The man with no sense of meaning and morality is condemned and killed for his crimes, but before he is he comes to terms with the absurdity and meaningless of the universe, and finds comfort in it. The important question is, can we rightly condemn the man? One who is utterly confused as to the uproar of the people, one who fundamentally doesn't understand morality the same way we do?
And nah dont worry, I'm used to philosophical argument, which is pretty heavy stuff. I do not condone serial rapists by the way, because it doesn't fit my personal moral compass, and I doubt it even fits their own moral compasses.
You seem to doubt that it's possible to find meaning and truth in such a terrible thing, but doesn't that imply that there is an inherent moral law that is being ignored or denied? Even the idea that it is more difficult to consider certain things to be right suggests that there is true truth.
I am unfamiliar with the story you are referencing and so I can't really comment on it.
If everyone can determine their own moral compass, then how can you tell anybody that they are wrong? Wouldn't that be violating their personal moral compass? How can two contradictory truths be true?
And don't worry dude, I assumed you against serial rapists.
I should clarify.
I am an existentialist who believes in the importance of socially constructed morality. If existentialism was accepted worldwide, there would be people who would take advantage of it because there is no way to know whether someone does truly believe something or not.
I believe on existentialism only on a personal level, as an intensely personal search for meaning within yourself. It doesn't work as a societal philosophy, but it can work personally within a seperate societal philosophy. I believe truth is subjective but we must as societies agree on an objective morality and truth in order for society to continue to function.
But if there's a need to base our societies on objective morality, which it seems you reject on the personal level if I understand correctly, wouldn't that point to the existence of principles that remain true even in and of themselves? That aren't purely the result of social construction?
The only reason the need to base our societies in objective morality is because humans lie. If we were entirely truthful, existentialism would work as a societal philosophy because we could know what people genuinely believe without a shadow of a doubt. Also because a cohesive society only works if we can come to a compromise for how to keep law and order, otherwise it would be a constant disagreement over what is or isn't moral, which is pointless if subjective morality is widely accepted.

But what if someone sincerely believed that it was right for them to be a serial rapist? If they honestly believe that their happiness is more important than anyone else's so they are allowed to use anyone however they want, then how can you stop them? It's their truth. If you know a murderer genuinely believes it's alright to murder everyone he comes across, he still can't be allowed to do it. And if it is impossible for someone to really believe that, then there must be some moral law that says that **** is bad.
I still have seen a satisfactory answer to these questions. It seems to me that existentialism is a self-centered worldview that allows one to do whatever they feel is right. Humans seem to have been doing what is right in their own eyes for a long time and a lot of wrong has happened. I hold to a worldview that is God-centered, and if God is truly good and holy, then he is the only thing that anything should be centered around.
It is super late where I'm at and I have to be up early tomorrow (Grandma's bringing donut for Valentine's Day!) so this will be the last thing I say tonight. Thanks for the discussion. I can tell you've thought through a lot of this but I would just say to continue thinking about it.

I cast a spell of luck upon you!
you can do it, my dear Carsorino!
oh, also, although we aren’t exactly in a worldbuilding phase right now, I do have an idea for the Gods Must be Crazy. It isn’t particularly relevant to where the plot is now, but I thought it’d be cool.
Pray tell, what is it?
So basically, you know how the South Pole is a giant tundra corrupted by the mirror world? Well, I was thinking, what if it was rich in some resource, particularly, a fuel source that leaks out of the Mirror world. That fuel source has started almost an entirely new revolution in one of the nations who are starting to use that fuel source, and they have a very ambitious project to use that fuel source: they are going to make the world’s first trains. At the time we start, they are only just in the planning phase, but they can basically revolutionize travel (possibly to and from the Steam Belt) via trains.
one problem, that fuel source, when burned for, Y’know, fuel, lets the mirror world influence and warp the world around it.
they are building a monstrous mega pollution demon train, and they don’t know it.
Oh my, very dark fantasy, it's perfect!
Any thoughts or ideas to add onto it?
It seems that any kind of movement like that would spawn some sort of counter-movement, like a hippie kinda thing, druids and rangers and stuff getting back to the primal roots of magic in opposition to the mega demon pollution industrialist mages
Ooh, yeah. The people who live on the outer regions of the tundra don’t want people coming in to harvest this giant fuel, because it’s bad for nature the entire world.
once it’s built, I think it’d be cool if eventually, the people who work on the trains become are corrupted and possessed, and demons start to form out of the smoke, like imp type creatures.
It would be pretty sick if the trains themselves slowly became horrible eldritch flesh prisons for the conductors trapped forever within screaming masses of twisted demonic steel and sinew
Oh gods that sounds terrifying
sixteen tons of scurrying death, smolderin’ souls through a funnel of red
eventually, the conductor’s lungs are so filled with the demon smoke, and their body is so warped by the mirror world, that the train has no more use for them. It swallows them up and burns them and their souls as fuel. They don’t die, they simply become part of the machine as their hopes and dreams are funneled out with the smoke. Their screams become the train’s horn, and they are left to suffer, constantly burning in the hot fire of the engine. Until the engine stops, they are never free. And if the devils on the train have anything to say about it, they will never stop.
This is terrifying and beautiful and it fits the world perfectly
Oh god, this is actually so terrifying.
lets hope our characters can stop it from being built…
Unless I’m the DM, then it’s the opposite, this is so evil and I wanna use it.
This idea will keep me up at night. Thanks
The train eventually should be so powerful that it is not limited by tracks, but it would just be a train-like demon mass parading around the world leaving a trail of coruption and demonic destruction

Some single people feel extra lonely on Valentine's Day.
And some couples feel extra-pressured to make it special, even if their regular life is full of love.
I know my mom said she felt like the people that felt a big need to make it special probably had issues the other times. So while she and my father would do something nice like a nicer meal or exchange cards, it wasn't a huge thing for them either. They showed love to each other throughout the year.

My family just writes letters to each other. When you live with someone and spend all day around them, and they are siblings and parents not romantic partners, it can be easy to go for a long while without reminding each other of your love. I like it because it allows us to communicate that we do love our family when it would usually be awkward or out of pocket otherwise. And it's easy to just say "I love you," but when you write it out in a letter you can explain why and how you love them.
