I'm designing a dungeon. Basic premise for this one is that the party is going after an adventuring guild that killed their goblin friends. And then more than meats the eye will appear.
Gonna have three and a half factions at play.
Guild: Actually good-aligned, if a bit naive. They want to kill monsters and protect people. But right now they're currently holed up in a keep in their castle-homebase because of the other two factions. Got a little "boss battle" in mind since there's a decent chance IMHO that the party will want to fight them.
Devils: A chain devil named Vinculator has met the party before. His goal is to fight demons to keep them from getting ahead in the Blood War. Will have hobgoblin allies along with some minor devils. Currently has the Guild holed up and controls the ground of the above ground area of the castle because the Guild, for some reason, doesn't want to negotiate with evil devils. Vinculator is also responsible for transforming a scholar into a monster, fearing that the shcolar would work with the demons.
Demons: A group of demons is kinda trying to gain power. (Standard demon stuff.) They're in the caverns beneath the castle trying to get the scholar, but in his monstrosity form he's actually pretty strong. I'm thinking they'll have a Night Hag taking the lead in this case (maybe shapechange into a dead party member :P ). Though need to flesh out more of how they're acting.
Scholar: In monster form. But Viculator has an object that could bring him back to human. Definitely want some fight with him. :D (Kinda 1/2 or 1/4 of a faction.)
Tim: An aracanoloth that's against the demons. Not for the sake of good, but for the sake of keeping the blood war mercenary money going. Party could call him once they find the scholar since Tim wants to talk with him.
Curious if you guys have any interesting things you'd suggest as encounters (whether traps, social stuff, etc.).
