Hey guys, I am looking to start a playthrough of Storm King's Thunder. It goes without saying but only apply if you have never played/read the module before. Characters will start at level 1, on their way to Nightstone having heard of rumours of goblins and a reward. If you wish to be a part of this then please reply to the thread with the following:
Character name.
Class and race. (all classes and races are allowed except for UA, and homebrew).
Ability score generation method (Either 4d6 drop lowest and roll in the application or point buy/standard array. If you roll, you can't change your mind)
Backstory
It will be useful for at least one character to speak giant (but more important for your languages to fit your character)
Backstory: Gorge was born to be one of the strongest in his tribe and for the longest time he was praised to take chieftain and lead his tribe to new plains. That was until he was cast out by an outsider who had come in and challenged the current leader of his tribe and won. Upon seeing the threat that Gorge posed he cast him out of the tribe. He is now on a journey to face the strongest opponents and grow himself to take leadership of his tribe.
Backstory (abridged): Sent on a pilgrimage from his knowledge-craving evil cult deep in the underdark, Lucius is under orders to obtain knowledge and riches to return to his cult. He is to do this by attaching himself to a band of adventurers (they always seem to find their way into interesting places) and befriend and accompany them.
This will be my first time playing on these forums, but I've repeatedly dabbled in RPGs over the last decade and look forward to taking part in one here.
Class and race: Human Cleric of Eldath ( Point Buy )
Description/personality: Mandaway is laid back....very laid back, an unkind person might call him lazy and if he were to be honest its not far from the truth. He likes people, all sorts of people...some in smaller doses than others but he'll go out of his way to help anyone who needs it. Not overly prone to violence he's unfortunately had to defend himself a little more often than he'd like the last few years.
Backstory: Mandaway was a strange lad, never really interested in working at his parents lumber yard and spent most of his youth roaming the woodlands and assisting the rather elderly tender of the Sacred Pool near his village. He learnt some stuff from both parents and cleric...mostly by osmosis rather than actual study. He grew up, was a lacklustre sawman and really didn't feel like taking over looking after the Pool...though he promised the goddess he'd do so if he ever retired which was growing closer day by day.
At 35, he decided to strike out on his own...well that was too much effort but he did offer to escort a load of lumber to Longsaddle....lumber, not a common target of bandits or stone giants or stone giant bandits. In short order everyone else was dead and he was staring up at a very large club, he wasn't sure if it was the goddess or just blind desperation but he saw a gash on the giants foot and leaned forward and healed it. And thats how he ended up spending six years preaching the word of Eldath ( what he could remember anyway) to the Granite Gang in The Crags....and then the wyverns came.....and now he's heading to Nightstone looking for work as an adventurer....well any work really.....
Experience as a player: 35 years of Gming and playing rpgs, currently run 4 PbPs only started playing D&D last year with 5e.
Time Zone: I manage to post at least once a day without fail to my other PbPs so I don't forsee an issue there.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Character name: Hawk of the Night (Hawk)
Race / Class : Tabaxi Ranger
Ability scores:
713517126
Background: I left my tribe on Maztica to explore the world. I was very happy there, and never envisioned adventuring to other realms, but one day it all changed. The clan shaman told me he was contacted by The Cat Lord in his sleep. According to him, I have a greater purpose and my destiny does not lie in Maztica. The clan banished me, with great sadness, having no other choice but to listen to the gods. We feasted my departure and I do not blame them for anything! I hope one day to prove my worth to The Cat Lord and if it does not kill me, I will then be able to return home.
Description/Personality: I live every moment to its fullest, like there is no tomorrow! I am a strong believer in the gods, mainly the Cat Lord, and do believe that I have a greater purpose. This sometimes leads me to act in strange ways, and risky ways, because I think that is the will of the gods. I do get myself into tight spots because of this. My clan, the clan of the Sparkling Willow, are ocelot-like Tabaxi, so we are smaller than the usual Tabaxi (only slightly shorter than humans).
I can fit in Giant speech if necessary, as an explorer / traveler. Maybe we could have had a friendly Giant living close to the clan in Maztica (and to the DM’s discretion, that Giant could have something to do with my “exile”; I am open to some-kind of small backstory there)
(I am very motivated to participate in a PbP and will definitely post every day, times may vary but will for sure come by daily)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Name: Alex
Race and Class: Changeling Bard
Ability Scores: Ability scores: 161314151210
Backstory: Alex was found by his family in a cart, sleeping. It looked like the cart had been attacked and the occupants killed but Alex had been missed. When the family brought Alex home, the village took one look at the pale skin and the colorless eyes, and told their family to get rid of the cursed child or the village would. So Alex’s family left everything to protect the baby, and as Alex grew and learned how to shift forms, they encouraged Alex to stay out of their original form so as to avoid suspicion. Alex grew up among this family of goliaths, and learned their own strengths lay in trickery and being agile, unlike their muscular brothers and sister. When they were old enough, they set out on a mission to pay their family back for everything with any method available. So they stole valuables, teamed up with thieves, even played some music for coin. So when they heard this rumor of goblins and a reward it sounded perfect.
Backstory: Forge was born to a family of scholars though neither his parents nor his grandparents showed the gene, forge would be the first genasi in the bloodline for at least 3 generations. Mostly human looking, Forge differed from others in the fact that his hair appeared to both flow and glow like fire, his eyes had the same color and glow as his hair did and in intense moments of emotion, the veins within his body would light up as if liquid fire flowed through him. He was raised to seek knowledge and was started young in the arcane arts. Unlike his parents before him Forge's affinity for the arcane came quick and the time would quickly come when he would have to seek other avenues to further his knowledge and abilities. Once an adult, Forge set out from home to finally seek this knowledge and has spent his time travelling the world both furthering his intelligence and teaching himself to further grasp his arcane talents.
Epiram was raised alongside three others who were trained by a righteous monastery to go out into the world and be a force for good. This ultimate mission puts a lot of pressure on him and he often wonders if he is even capable of living up to the lofty standards set by the ones who raised him.
You can't drown someone with Create Water. If your lungs are containers than your bones are objects. Any Siege monster that attacks you deals double damage because it’s attacking your bones.
Backstory: Cassius is born into a hunting tribe. They took great pride in their abilities. Some hunted giants some dragons some took pride in their ability to make the seas a little safer. Most of the people in the tribe used tactics that required melee combat. Cassius never could wield a blade very well. He found them clumsy. He did, however, take a lighting to bows of all shapes and sizes. Allowing him to strike with greater precision and from afar.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Gash- Lvl14 Goblin Wizard - The High Court of the Aasimar Queen
Backstory: Young by elf standards, Baelyth left his small village to a life of hermitage in the forests because he didn't fit in. He is socially awkward and oblivious to general etiquette and social cues. Overconfident to a fault, Baelyth has survived on his own in the wild through a combination of luck and sheer will. He genuinely believes he is more competent than anyone he meets until proven otherwise.
Backstory: (Short) After being exiled from his academy for accidentally killing his best friend, He searches for a way to resurrect his friend from the dead so he can make up for all the years he missed
Sorry if I am worse than everyone else at DnD as I am just not as experienced, and I doubt many people allow people to play their campaign when it's the PCs first time playing a campaign
Generation method: Dice rolling (character race, class, and background were also randomly chosen) 13814161210
Backstory: Colton Blueflower was the result of an arranged marriage between Cordelia, a Daughter of an Elven Duke from deep in the forests of Tethir and the Ferdinand, son of an inland rural lordling. Due to errors in communication and translation, they did not realize the difference in races until the day of the marriage. As Ferdinand began to age, his still-useful wife inevitably grew bored, and took the then 22 year old Colton with her on a "vacation" to her ancestral lands. During the trip, Colton and Cordelia's carriage was struck by a wave of arcane energy. When Colton awoke, he was still in the forest, but his mother and the carriage were gone, and the forest road had become overgrown. Stumbling out the forest three days later, he learned that 80 years had gone past, his father had died without an heir, and his lands had been parceled and sold. Now he is a young lord without family or holdings, forced to make his way as an adventurer. The only bright spot, if one can call it that, is the mysterious wild magic that now bubbles in Colton's blood. Its source would certainly be important information if Colton could remember it, or anything that happened in the decades of his absence.
[edit: given my extremely low score (which I am planning on putting into strength) can I convert my gold into a set of people who carry me around on a litter, as my legs are too weak to carry me for long periods?]
Class and race. Warforged Paladin (Oath of the Ancients)
Ability score: Point buy.
Backstory: Created in another era, this warforged was injured in battle and rendered inert. Over the eons, roots from a majestic and powerful nature spirit merged with its structure. The magic brought the warforged back to life, but with new programming: Protect Nature with Oath of the Ancients.
Race & Class: Goliath Fighter (aiming for Battlemaster)
Ability scores: 131311121416
Backstory: Iralig "Lonestalker" Nugalano has chosen those out in the world over his own tribe, and it has shaped his life every since. As a young Goliath he would forage, fight and survive with his clan mates in the high tops of the Nether Mountains; he would survive the climb to the heights of the White Peak as his Rite of the Dying Youth and eventually took his place as a scout at the behest of his clan chief. During his patrols throughout the peaks and foothills, he see fleeting glimpses into the other cultures and learns a few facts of races of the world, each of which pique his curious interest and instill an unusual sense of wanderlust in him. Soon his ranges from the clan lands would take him further and further afield, his time away not going unnoticed by his fellows.
Finally, whilst moving with a hunting party he and several clan mates crested a ridge in the low foothills, a scene of carnage unfolding beneath them. There, a long caravan of traders and their rapidly dwindling escort of guards were being roundly slaughtered by warband of orcs. Human, halfling, elf and dwarf were being felled by the unforgiving onslaught of brutal weaponry; Iralig drew his weapon, and started to push down the scree to lend aid, but the thick hand of one of his compatriots held him back. Iralig turned to council action, to help those being killed below, but the stony faces and steeled visages of his clan told him their thoughts - Survival of the Fittest. It only took a moment, but his mind was made up. Knowing what his choice would mean, he pushed his restraint away and turned in a moment, rushing down the slope and into battle. It was now a slaughter of a different kind, and soon the orcs lay dead or fleeing, but only a handful of the caravan remained alive. Catching his breath Iralig looked upwards to the slope, a moment of hope being dashed before the ridgeline stood empty and one thought came to his mind - exile. He had chosen his path and now he had to walk it; with that he turned to help those in need.
Now Iralig walks the world, lending aid where he can and doing what he was brought up to do - Survive.
Backstory: Alastair Pickwibble Zook Fiddlefen, or Zook, as he prefers to be called, lived a quiet, unassuming life in the forests of the Trielta Hills. He was typical of his fellow gnomes: good natured, full of life and humor, with a love for music, nature and animals. He’s always had pets, usually mice, voles and small birds who lived in his pocket, or on his shoulder, and is forever stopping to watch, and even converse with forest animals whenever he encounters them. He’s also very good at whittling and woodcarving, and in fact, carves his own flutes.
When he reached maturity, his natural curious nature led him to leave his home and go explore other places. Winding his way north, he spent a few years wandering through the countryside and visited some of the bigger cities along the Sword Coast. Having lived a rather sheltered life, Zook, was struck by the vastly different lifestyles that most folks in the world live, and also by the high number of dangers, threats and unkind acts that many people face from monsters as well as bandits and other unsavory types.
Become disillusioned with the world and faced with lingering questions about the meaning of life itself, Zook left society and began a long life of seclusion at the monastery. He spent the next twenty years living in relative solitude away from the dangers and evils of the world, training his body and mind, seeking to attain a level of perfection and enlightenment within himself.
At some point, Zook once again began facing thoughts of dissolution. It seeemd as if the closer he felt he got towards perfection, the further away it seemed. It also occurred to him that his highly improved skills and focused mind were being wasted. What’s the use of possessing such skills if they weren’t actually being used for any specific purposes, namely helping people. After a long period of contemplation, Zook left the monastery and wandered back towards society, with the aim to help as many people as possible, while still seeking to attain enlightenment, personal perfection and discover the meeting of life.
Zook doens’t speak Giant, but would be willing to edit the character if that would help.
Farley wasn’t the traditional child at the monastery, he was.... bigger than most. During his training he realized to use his size to his advantage. Rather going for nimbleness and grace, he decided to use tremendous strength (sumo style). Always making sure he kept to his studies like his masters said. As he came of age he decided to set out into the world to do some good, learn, and put his training to action. Usually found eating several helpings of food to keep his physique, he can’t help looking for extra books and times to continue his studies.

Name: Bert Termagird
Class: (pretty sure Elven) rogue
Ability scores: Ability scores: 131711111116
Background: Bert is a skilled craftsman and has a perfectly respectable day job in town. He just... well, after dark he likes to sneak around. And look at fun new things. And maybe bring them back home with him. He brings them back! Usually. Or he'll leave something equally valuable behind him. But get this! There are other criminals out there at night, trying to sneak around too, and stealing things and attacking people! It's terrible. Can't have that. Bert's gotten pretty good at defending himself and defending other people from these brigands.
