Your group finds themselves travelling along a peaceful forest path. The bright sunny day casts a pleasant green light through the canopy onto the mossy woodland floor. You have been traveling for a few days to meet with an elven noble named Nalfis, but the path is easy and the land is full of food and fresh water. Suddenly, there is a loud crash, like a peal of thunder, from up ahead. A scattering of small woodland creatures flee in a stampede the opposite direction you are walking.
Jayce immediately motions the others to stay low and quiet. "I'll go take a look." he whispers, as he runs up a nearby tree to get a vantage point to scout ahead. (He has slipper of spider climbing)
"Something's not right!" Eliodos exclamates slighly loud, but then noticing the more stealthy mood around he lowers his tone "Yea, go ahead Jayce, like the heroes of ty old lore"
He then proceeds along with the group.
Eliodos walks on his hooves and wears nothing but a fancy toga along with his bracers, trusty blade and backpack hidden underneath a cape
"Always so quick to assume the worst..." Cailan sits atop his magnificent white pegasus as it walks to the rear of the group, its wings tightly folded against its body and the rider's legs. He brings it to a halt, waiting to see what Jayce has to offer, and strokes the beast's neck as he waits.
The aasimar is dressed in the garb of one belonging to a holy order, leather armour covered by a white tabard emblazoned with a golden eye, only half the iris and pupil visible, with three tears, the central one longer than the others, positioned below the eye. The same symbol is etched onto his shield. His head and neck are covered by a grey silk hood, and his face is completely covered by an ornate mask; an intricate pattern of holes around the eye area providing visibility to the wearer. Where there should be darkness, or perhaps even a glimpse of a face under the correct lighting, there is instead a continual glow of light, as if the sun itself resides behind the mask.
Darkfire flares his wings wide from his body forcing his cloak away from covering them, and watches as Jayce climbs the trees in stealth.
At first glance he appears to be a large Black Dragon born, however closer examination will see that the black scales end around his biceps, turning to Red. On the center of his scaled chest a pattern of Red Scales form the shape of a star. The black ends again at his knees and red scales continue down....He wears a cloak around his shoulders normally covering his wings, also in a black with some arcane lettering down the back in Draconic. A Black and red kilt covers his waste, held in place by a belt with an arcane symbol at the front. He carries a large double bladed axe. He wears no armor however his scales appear tough.
Either when he gets to the top, or at the range of 120', Darkfire bring a a small copper wire, bring it to his mouth and point it in the direction of Jayce. He will cast Message to Jayce"What do you see?"Jayce will know that any response he makes can't be heard by anyone else but Darkfire, and Darkfire assumes his comrades will know about this capability as well.
His grey fur and green cloak dissolve in shadow as he slips into the foliage beside the trail. He releases a catch on his left bracer, revealing a small hand crossbow, which he loads with a bolt as he watches the path ahead for trouble.
Form his high vantage point, Jayce sees an area of fallen trees a couple thousand feet ahead. The splintered trees seem to form a near perfect circle, radiating from a motionless figure draped in a blue cape. Dozens of black birds flutter about the clearing, several of them perched on the figure.
Silence falls over the wood. The hairs raise on the back of your necks as you get the sense you are being watched.
"This stranger appears to be between us and our destination...and I do also have a feeling we are being watched. Perhaps it is not hostile? I suspect we may not be able to avoid it."
"This one does not trust the stranger, but this one will follow Darkfire." he says to his friend from the cover of the brush. Staying low, he steps back into the clearing and positions himself behind the Dragonborn Sorcerer. He raises a hand and touches a small leather pouch hanging around his neck, before tucking it away into his studded leathers.
He looks to Eliodos, watching the Satyr's sword hand for the subtle vibrations that come when danger is near. "Eliodos, what does your rapier see?"
"If the forest has eyes, then surely it can see it should not test itself against the likes of us. Come, we've a good half a mile to go, our new acquaintance may yet reveal their intentions in that time..." Cailan rests his mount's reins on his lap, steering the pegasus with his knees as he circles the group to examine their surroundings for whatever was watching them, tightening the bracers on his forearms as he does so.
As a couple of you begin to walk into the clearing, you receive a better look at the scene. The trees closest to the figure have been reduced to splinters. Some of the black birds fly away as you approach and appear to be ravens. The figure is mostly covered by the blue cape, but the cape has a golden crest of Nalfis's house embroidered into it. A wrinkled, unmoving hand peaks out from the cape grasping a rolled scroll of parchment and obsidian pendant on a silver chain.
Eliodos's rapier doesn't send out any warning, suggesting you are safe for the moment. Cailan looks around for the source of the group's unease and quickly finds there are ravens watching from the trees around them. None of you remember seeing ravens in this forest before and do not remember seeing any fly nearby.
"my rapier isn't shaking, it seems we are in no immediate danger." Eliodos shares with the group. "By Erebos! Those I cant recall ravens existing in this forest and that doesn't seem like a good omen!"He then exclamates for himself
Hearing then about the house of Nalfis he tries to recall what he may 133
The Tabaxi stays close to his friends. His tail twitching nervously, he searches his memories for any clue that would help discern the identity of this strange individual.
As Darkfire approaches the figure, it becomes apparent to the dragonborn it is a dead elf. More shocking perhaps is the individuals skin. In some parts it seems to belong to someone full of youth, in others someone who lived an entire lifetime, and in others still a desiccated leather of a long dead corpse. They are unburdened of any gear except their clothing, the parchment, and the pendant.
Considering the situation, Eliodos recalls Nalfis's story. He is a wizened elf leader of a small forest dwelling clan. Through his efforts travelers and woodland beasts have been kept safe from monstrous threats: dragons, undead, trolls, and the like. His main passion is conjuration magic. Specifically, planar transportation and what binds the worlds together. He has spent his life conducting experiments on the subject, and it is rumored he was able to bridge the gap. Some say his spire exists simultaneously in the material and feywild planes.
"What the..." Jayce approaches and scans the figure and the surrounding area to try and determine how he died. He then tries to retrieve the parchment and the pendant.

Jayce responds to Darkfire's message. "There's someone ahead and I have a bad feeling we've been noticed." he whispers.
He quickly runs back down the tree to join the others. He gives a brief description of what her saw as he draws his rapiers.
"Anyone have a better idea or are we just gonna walk out and see who it is?" speaking in a low voice.

"He wears the crest of Nalfis. If he is not Nalfis himself he may have been sent by him."
Darkfire will approach the cloaked figure waiting for other in the party so that they all go together.
