Are you ready to embark on a journey through the treacherous lands of Baldur's Gate and descend into the depths of Avernus? I am seeking brave souls to join me in an epic campaign where we will delve into the darkness, confront demons, and uncover secrets that could shake the very foundations of our world.
Campaign Details:
Adventure: Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus
Starting Level: 1
Character Creation: Point Buy for stats, any official/published content allowed
Session Frequency: TBD (to be discussed with selected players)
Platform: dndbeyond pbpforum
How to Join: If you're interested in joining this adventure, please reply to this post expressing your interest. Tell me what kind of character you envision playing in this campaign. After selecting players, we will discuss a common "dark secret" that characters have in common, for example, all of them being part of coup, plotted murder, heist or were part of a conspiracy. Whatever they were involved...failed.
Hey, I´m quite interested and intrigued to play via Forum (According to what I´m reading in the post) maybe I´ll play with a Barbarian Dwarf (Wanted to try to play this race so I guess it´s a perfect opportunity... if there is any space available of course :)
Session Frequency: TBD (to be discussed with selected players)
Does this mean you're planning for dedicated time (let's say Tuesdays from 6-9 for sake of example) where everyone should be posting at the same time? As opposed to other styles where it's asynchronous?
Definitely interested but might have to withdraw if it is at specific times I can't make ... a bit more flexible timewise now though
I'm thinking about a blood hunter for this one if that's within the acceptable limits. Fairly common origin story for a planned Order of Lycan hunter, maybe, but the twist was in the stark contrast of that grimdark element with a gnome's stereotypically "normal" cheerfulness. Left option open if you want him to actually come FROM Baldur's Deep or from a community close by
Abilities: STR 10 DEX 15 CON 9 INT 16 WIS 12 CHA 13 (racial modifiers included)
Once, Jelxis Horcusporcusi had light. In fact, to many he WAS light, the most joyous and joy-giving gnome bard in the city of {}.. And the glowing heart was something so cliche and at the same time so deeply precious that although it shone through in every song and tumble and sleight he never dared to write it in explicitly:
Love. His twin suns, the only lights in the multiverse for him. Hisxif and Loriceli. His infintely-beloved daughter and wife.
Then the bleak dawn when all his light went out. No, far worse. His light was ripped violently from him when he awoke to find his infinitely-beloved daughter and wife beside him. In several pieces. Torn apart by the claws of a raging monster so viciously that he was covered in their blood.
Then came the ashen months, the months of smoldering where at least there was some flickering ember of a hope of finding the creature and exacting vengeance ... but always with one terrible fact smoldering away in the deepest-banked coals and embers. A coal of darkness, becoming ever more unbearably searing as the months and then years passed and he could not find the beast.
They were terribly mangled that terrible morning, and there was no way to be sure, but from the way their bodies ... or what remained of them ... were lying...
they had not been running TO him for protection that horrible night that he would never again be able to escape the burden of.
I’ve been considering running this, so I’d love to be able to do a play through all the way to the end. So I’m committed.
I think I’d like to go straightforward with a variant human wizard. Pretty classic wizard build. I’ll bring the details into the background to add in some interest once we sort through some of the other things you mentioned.
Perhaps something like this:
A haughty prince. Vain, spoiled. He visits a village and is disgusted that it is infected with the plague. As he is leaving, a woman asks for assistance from the crown. The prince pulls away and denies the request. The old woman points to him and says that he and his family will be cursed. He scoffs and leaves. A fortnight later his wife becomes ill. It spreads throughout the castle. His father and mother. His two young children. The servants and guards. All but the prince are struck with a pox. A horrifying disease that leads to excruciating deaths before his eyes. The prince studies magic, hoping to erase the illness. But no matter what he attempts, he cannot stop the illness. When the last servant dies, and the prince is alone in the castle, the old woman appears on his doorstep. She chuckles and turns to walk away. The prince leaves the castle, and his past, behind, and wanders the world.
Name: Eggo Lass Race: Elf (Drow) Background: Plaintiff (Acquisitions Incorporated background, reflavor into general lawyer/paralegal) Class: Warlock (Great Old One) Stats (with racials): STR (8) DEX (16) CON (14) INT (10) WIS (10) CHAR (16)
General Backstory: Involved with the legal systems, she was drawn into whatever dark plot the party had thinking she'd be able to help exploit loopholes in the law. But now that it's failed, well, there's no way out but forward! For the build, kind of looking towards the Darkness / Devil's Sight combo. And Pact of the Tome at lv3 because I like getting more cantrips. For the personality, generally gregarious to the party. Maybe feeling a little motherly? (Not sure.) Willing to do good, but also willing to get scary if needs be. (Probably a Neutral alignment of sorts.) And a love of cooking.
Session Frequency: leaning somewhere between 24-72 hours?
Name- Selia Tandu, Stout Halfling, Warlock of the Fiend.
Baldurs gate- Sage.
Selia made a living as a scribe for hire in Baldurs Gate......with occasional forays into forgery for some extra coin.....this brought her to the attention of other interested parties and somehow she allowed herself to be talked into assisting them.
Bivy is a gem dragonborn cleric with the noble (Baldur's gate) background who see himself as a mediator between the upper class he is a part of, the common folk, and the divine. He wants to see the best in people and it sometimes causes irritation with his family and upper class friends who don't think he should be helping the poor so much, but never overdoing it and truly gaining their ire. He is a disciple of life in all kinds, always ready to help the downtrodden but also enjoying the comforts of his upbringing.
He is a descendant of a crystal dragon, so many of his features sparkle and shine like crystal depending on the light, and his scales further gleam softly in any light shone on them. His eyes are dark blue and kindly, his white hair sticks up softly down his neck and his tail reaches just down toward the end of his legs and curls off a few inches from the ground.
Gotu is one of redemption and service, shaped by the trials of his past and his unwavering dedication to his deity. Gotu was not always a Cleric. Once, he was a skilled thief, raised in the underbelly of Baldur's Gate, where survival often meant embracing a life of crime. He was adept at slipping through the city's defenses, relieving the wealthy of their burdens with deft hands and a silver tongue. However, a botched heist changed everything. In his greed and arrogance, Gotu attempted to steal from a temple dedicated to a benevolent deity. But as he reached for the sacred relics, he was struck down by a sudden bolt of divine energy, leaving him unconscious and at the mercy of the temple's clergy.
When Gotu awoke, he found himself within the confines of the temple; his wounds tended by the clerics he had sought to rob. Rather than turning him over to the authorities, they offered him a choice: face the consequences of his actions or embark on a path of redemption, serving the deity he had so callously defied.
Moved by a newfound sense of purpose and the mercy shown to him by the clerics, Gotu chose the latter. Under the guidance of the temple's high priest, he devoted himself to the study of divine magic and the teachings of his deity. Though the path was arduous and fraught with challenges, Gotu found solace in his newfound faith and the opportunity to atone for his past transgressions.
Character idea: Shadar-kai paladin that is not a shining beacon of light, but a more pragmatic warrior. She travels as a mercenary but not for the coin or wanderlust but to be the eyes and ears of the Ravenqueen. At first glance she may seem like another fighter, but behind her dark eyes twinkles a cat's curiosity.
Backstory: (Speaking slowly) "The others complain of loss. I have found gain. It started as a drink with strangers. It became a grand scheme. It didn't go as planned, but I don't care. I have friends now." Whatever you may think of his motivations, remember only that he was willing to do terrible things for this friendship. His spell choices are also a tad on the disturbing side.
Class: Ranger or Rogue with plans to multiclass into Bard at level 2
Background: TBD (probably Criminal/Spy, possibly Noble or Faction Agent-Harpers)
Backstory: Born Lady Kitiara Skye, Kit fled from an arranged marriage in Waterdeep and vanished into the mean streets of Baldur's Gate (Heapside, in the low city) where she's made a life for herself as a street performer, spy, fixer, and general reprobate. She has close ties to [criminal contact TBD] who may be associated with the Harpers. Kit has the heart of a knight errant but suffers from recklessness, poor self-control, and a strong independent streak. With the right motivation and a bit of luck, maybe she'll grow up to be the hero she likes to think she is.
Hello! I’m interested in playing. I’m interested in playing as a Human Wizard, if I can Multi classing to a Rougue, probably school of illusion and want to make a deck of cards a spell casting focus, and use the Cartomancer feat
