Its possible I'll have some players use Transport via plants to move the group back home quickly, there are four of them (fine) some donkeys and horses (also fine as they're creatures) but what about the cart and two carriages? The spell specifies 'creature' not 'object or vehicle', I'm presuming the creature takes everything they have on them, with them.
So does anybody have any advice for this? Have you allowed players to take a vehicle if they're driving it? Would they have to be holding it (eg up XD) Would they go through but the cart stay rammed up against the tree even if they were riding it? Or does this only transport the creatures sans clothes (which feels both mean, and incredibly funny XD)
I don't want to create a precedent of being able to drive a coach and horses through the spell, but it also is a way to get them back quickly, I suppose a player could roll something like a Con check to hold onto a large object through the tree, and a fail means it gets lost in the woodwork or only part through?
As DM it's up to you. My interpretation of RAW is they would not be able to take the cart, (unless it is light enough to be carried).
At level 11 the cost of a cart is tiny. If you say the cart can not go through you might make them have to decide what they take with them. If they are going home being encumbered won't be a problem if they are going somewhere else they will have to either find a cart once they arrive or do without. It is up to you if you want toimpose that restriction.
You could allow the cart only to travel between particularly large trees giving you the option to allow the cart or not but this is definitely homebrew. The spell has no limit on creature size so RAW a terrasque could transport between two large trees if for example chasing the party.
I’d also say no cart. I think the general understanding is creatures and anything they wear/carry. As for the solution to getting the carts through, that’s the player’s problem. Let them figure out what they want to do. Make a few trips, prioritize what they take and leave the rest. Use some other spell or ability, just ride the whole way. Something else. It’s up to them to solve the problem.
I would tell them before they start about the problem, rather than have them cast and find out the hard way. But after that, it’s their job to deal with the limitations of a spell.
I rule that carts and carriages can’t go through. For one thing they’re not creatures, and for another thing a carriage is probably too wide to fit through most trees. A small goat/hand cart? Maybe, if they pick it up and carry it. But a whole horse drawn carriage? No way.

Anyway, any guidance please :)

I'd say no cart.
Force the players to make a choice with meaningful consequences (the core concept of roleplaying).
Travel quickly, but at the cost of only taking what they can carry, or take the long way home, bringing all their loot.
