Out of curiosity, how does a cleric ready their spells? I know its through prayer, but i have player that had a long rest and wanted to change a spell about half an hour in. Is this allowed? Or does he have to wait the full 8 hours for the long rest.
You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of cleric spells requires time spent in prayer and meditation: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list.
You must finish the long rest to gain the benefit.

In general, all benefits of a long rest take place at the end of the rest: preparing spells, regaining slots, abilities recharging, HP restoring, regaining hit dice, etc.
my question is what is the time frame. Like what if he has completed the long rest and has been walking around for a while, does that mean he can still prepare new spells?
so you're saying if they are in the middle of a dungeon for the whole day, he can prepare new spells in that situation as well? Would it be they just get to prepare new spells once a day then to limit it?
Sorry, I missed part of the quote and didn't realize it:

You can find that in the Cleric section of the PHB on page 58.
The important part is what I made bold. That is the "when" you're asking about. The time frame is the Italilcized part. You must change your spells when you finish the long rest, taking that amount of time to do so. If you do not your spells do not change.
Now, we take a deeper look into what it means by Long Rest:
A long rest is a period of extended downtime, at least 8 hours long, during which a character sleeps or performs light activity: reading, talking, eating, or standing watch for no more than 2 hours.
So during your long rest you sleep for no less than 6 hours, this means the 2 hours of light activity must include meditation/prayer if you wish change your spells.

By that definition, he could prepare spells whenever but...he must stop, go into meditation, and spend the total time meditating.
Assuming 3rd level, that's 8 minutes of meditation, at 10th level that's 41 minutes of meditation.
