Curious about the feat, l decided to look it up (http://dnd5e.*******.com/feat:magic-initiate) and the wording got me a little confused,so l decided to make this for clarification.
If you learn a spell via magic initiate, for example, armour of agythys, can you only use it at first level once per long rest,or can you upcast it and use it more then once if you spend a spell slot, but use it once for free with the feat?
Edit:according to the replays l have gotten,my plan to get Eldritch blast and (a useful at higher levels)armor of agathis has been foiled. (Unless l get a dm who would allow it)

If you have levels in a spellcasting class, and if the spell you acquired from Magic Initiate is also on the spell list for that class, you may use any of your valid (which is any/all since the MI spell is always 1st level) spell slots to cast/upcast the spell as normal (in addition to the 'free' 1/LR casting of the spell from the feat itself).

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
I believe that if you have appropriate spells slots - such as if you're a wizard and you take magic initiate(wizard) - then you can cast the spell using your spell slots in addition to the once-per-rest casting, so yes you could upcast it.
If you don't have the appropriate spell slots - such as a wizard taking magic initiate(druid) - then you can't.
I may be wrong, someone can feel free to correct me.

Edit: Looks like Sigred beat me to it.
It's not the "appropriate spell slots," "It's the appropriate Spell List." The only class with its own "Slots" is the warlock, everybody else uses generic spell slots.

Still ruins the plan of upcasting armor of agythys though :(

I would guess the words RAW (specific) would mean you can't up cast it. But there may something I don't know about in 5th edit.
Itinerant Deputy Shire-reave Tomas Burrfoot - world walker, Raft-captain, speaker to his dead
Toddy Shelfungus- Rider of the Order of Ill Luck, Speaker to Friends of Friends, and Horribly big nosed
Jarl Archi of Jenisis Glade Fee- Noble Knight of the Dragonborn Goldcrest Clan, Sorcerer of the Noble Investigator;y; Knightly order of the Wolfhound
