Flyby. The snake doesn't provoke opportunity attacks when it flies out of an enemy's reach.
Actions
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage plus 7 (3d4) poison damage.
Description
A flying snake is a brightly colored, winged serpent found in remote jungles. Tribespeople and cultists sometimes domesticate flying snakes to serve as messengers that deliver scrolls wrapped in their coils.
Agreed.
That venom, with no save, is kind of devastating for a 1/8 CR.
It's got low hit points, but it's ferocious. Using the CR chart, it looks like a CR of 1/2 to me. With the Flyby Attack, maybe even 1.
Bro, you will never be able to hit a flying snake.
I think its because its hard to hit it, 'cause its tiny
So this creature, a beast (snake) with modifications (wings) is classified as a beast, but a winter wolf (wolf with a breath weapon) is not?
I want this as pet in my next campain
My dm let me have this as my warlock familiar. Makes Flock of Familiars totally worth the spell slot
1/8 CR??? +6 to hit, poison, flying... Broken
Relative to their CR rating I think these might be the deadliest creatures out there (not counting weird deadly creatures from official adventures that are weirdly counted as like CR0 or whatever).
The fact that they get +4 for their dexterity means that they have a decent chance of being high on the initiative roll. It also means they have a decent chance of saving against some lower level spells that require a dexterity save. Their ability to fly 60 feet also means (depending on how initiative works out) something like burning hands may only work if it is readied and only work on one of them. Even if readied. Because they can individually fly 30 feet, attack, then fly elsewhere another 30 feet. Especially in outdoor settings.
With a CR 1/8 rating, 7 of these is considered to be a deadly encounter for a level 1 party. With a +6 attack bonus and an average of 8 damage these could quickly kill a low level group. Especially one not made up of dwarves or yuan-ti (because of dwarves/yuan-ti poison resistance).
The fact that they can fly 60 feet and avoid opportunity attacks when doing so is kind of massive.
While they aren't intelligent, they are wise enough to be able to observe which creatures they are unlikely to hurt. Especially after a round or two of combat.
Because they are tiny they can pass through the area of a medium creature no problem. Their flyby feature even lets them ignore opportunity attacks. Being tiny also means 8 of them fit in a 5 foot cube.
Their limited blindsight also gives them some usefulness is places of heavy obscurement. Like fog or darkness.
So yea for their CR rating these are crazy deadly. Of course, a readied burning hands or other spells could kill them. But they can dish out a lot of damage on a party.
Imagine having it coiled around your arm and yelling "Scaly bullet!", as it shoots at some poor goblin, biting it in the eye.
Do yourself a favor and ban these for Conjure Animals. They are disgustingly overpowered for CR 1/8

What Colors if i may ask?
wondering cause it might be funn for my character to have one.
awwwwww that creature is so cuteeeee! I wanna pet it!!!
I already did, I considered multiclassing into Ranger just for this, but I'm also DMing a different campaign, so I might have the Ranger find one. I'm giving some of the others uncommon magical artifacts, but I figure that the Raner will appreciate this since he doesn't get much attention.
I want one that's smaller and has 2 dragonic horns and things like that it's my oc's familar
protecting a sword
Nice
It is admittedly cute, and quite powerful. To quote Kong: Skull Island, "Odd, isn't it? That the most dangerous places can be the most beautiful"(Tom Hiddleston)
The quote may not be exactly as intended, but you get what I'm saying.
Actually the DM can do something and they should.
I honestly think its kind of adorable.
