Flyby. The snake doesn't provoke opportunity attacks when it flies out of an enemy's reach.
Actions
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage plus 7 (3d4) poison damage.
Description
A flying snake is a brightly colored, winged serpent found in remote jungles. Tribespeople and cultists sometimes domesticate flying snakes to serve as messengers that deliver scrolls wrapped in their coils.
heh
Imagine conjure animals and summoning of these
One could justify the higher armor class because the creature is small and flying around, thus it is harder to hit.
Due to high dexterity and size they are harder to hit than a giant crab.
I'd have no clue how to pronounce its name if not for that handy button
that's my plan!
BTW, has anyone figured out how these cold-blooded jungle creatures are delivering messages in Icewind Dales? (RotFM) I cringe everytime I have to DM one of these...
Yuan-ty (snake people) also use them
probably because they're harder to hit while in flight
probably because they're harder to hit while in flight
yeah that makes sense
I've tamed 9 of them in a campaign
my DM had to nerf the damage to 1d4 and they still obliterate everything
nice
what's amusing is i was looking at this for my child halfling druid wild shape lol
Well, they are very quick. Also, the high AC might partly be compensating for its low hit points. (Only 5!!!)
This is not a CR 1/8, fight me
This flying threat is pretty OP. I picked it as my ranger companion and after applying everything this is its new stat block.
Flying Snake Companion
Flyby. The snake doesn't provoke opportunity attacks when it flies out of an enemy's reach.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 piercing damage plus 7 (3d4) poison damage.
Note: I'm ranger level 4.
I honestly think flying snake should be at least CR 1/4 or maybe even 1/2
How does this have a CR of 1/8? Like how??? 3d4 poison, and 60 ft flying, this could wreck someone how???
The artwork makes it look so cute!!
Also legit argument for taking Thunderclap or Word of Radiance cantrips as well as Burning Hands or Dragon's Breath. Anything spell that makes sure it takes damage even with successful roll is key!
