Aberrant Ground. The ground in a 10-foot radius around the mouther is doughlike difficult terrain. Each creature that starts its turn in that area must succeed on a DC 10 Strength saving throw or have its speed reduced to 0 until the start of its next turn.
Gibbering. The mouther babbles incoherently while it can see any creature and isn’t incapacitated. Each creature that starts its turn within 20 feet of the mouther and can hear the gibbering must succeed on a DC 10 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the creature can’t take reactions until the start of its next turn and rolls a d8 to determine what it does during its turn. On a 1 to 4, the creature does nothing. On a 5 or 6, the creature takes no action or bonus action and uses all its movement to move in a randomly determined direction. On a 7 or 8, the creature makes a melee attack against a randomly determined creature within its reach or does nothing if it can’t make such an attack.
Multiattack. The gibbering mouther makes one bite attack and, if it can, uses its Blinding Spittle.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 17 (5d6) piercing damage. If the target is Medium or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 10 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is killed by this damage, it is absorbed into the mouther.
Blinding Spittle (Recharge 5–6). The mouther spits a chemical glob at a point it can see within 15 feet of it. The glob explodes in a blinding flash of light on impact. Each creature within 5 feet of the flash must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or be blinded until the end of the mouther’s next turn.
Running a Trump soundboard to create the incoherent babbling.
Could anyone help?
I'm currently DM'ing for a group, that has a necromancer with 15 skeletons. Would a gibbering mouther be able to absorb the skeleton if it drops it to 0HP with its bite. Can you technically "kill" something thats already undead.
I have read that gibbering mouthers can pretty much eat anything & it doesn't state that undead aren't affected. Pllllleassee help!
The reply is most definitely way too late, but I believe it would be able to consume undead just like any other creature. As you said, it doesn't say anywhere that it can't.
gibber
Fun fact: In Eberron, there are insane people who cultivate gibbering mouthers in their basements. They think they hear immeasurable wisdom in the voices of their ancestors from them, and this is because the things do speak with the voices of those ancestors. They feed their old people to the mouthers.
This benefits Kyrzin.
Correct page reference is monster manual 157, not basic Rules 314.
For a CR2 monster, this thing is terrifying. Two auras and a 17 damage bite? OUCH.
How is this thing created?
I would have rated it cr4 but whatever
Having brilliant fun... the chaos, the confusion...
... and that's just the first one. I sent 2 in :)
The best possible monster to have lurking on a ceiling. They wait for the party to enter, and then get the drop on them. Literally.
is this a TPK waiting to happen? or at least a few dead PC's
i mean it's CR2 and the saves are low with low AC as well...so it seems like you can throw 1 of these at a lower level party... but you'd make 2 saves in the beginning of your turn, no?
So if you're 10 feet...which saving throw do you make first?
If it's the aberrant ground...then on a fail you are essentially stuck. because if you fail the gibbering as well....you can be 'forced to use your movement' but you have none now.
If you pass the aberrant ground...you can still fail the gibbering in which case you have only a 25% chance of moving in a random direction. it seems like all other results you cannot move. 1-4 you do nothing...7-8 melee attack but also doesn't say you can move.....
Also 17dmg per round is brutal for 3rd or 4th level PCs. Also another saving throw. Also the blinding would make you attack with Disadvantage. ALSO!
Has anyone run this yet?
y e s
I’ll take it!
come outside the sun is beautiful its a beautiful day
its safe outside come outside the sun is beautiful we are beautiful come outside come outside come outside
Things like this are the reason that, even as a melee character, you should always have a ranged attack as a backup.
it is a disgusting monster that is why i love it
He is only part of the mouthed if all he gets 3 fails or instakilled

Whenever I play gibbering mouthers I just have them chant "ooga ooga ooga chaka ooga ooga ooga chaka"
