if i would pick this one as my familiar, would i be able to harvest the snakes fangs for ingredients to make basic poisons or antitoxins?
Would be nice if it had a "familiar" or "find familiar" tag.
That image is not a snake.
It is the image they use for all beasts without pictures
I wish that too.
FEAR THE GREEN NOODLE OF DEATH!!
Good Question.
As long as i know the find familiar animals does not have the characteristics of the real animals, like the harry potter invocated animals.
They don't have a real body and is really questionable if they even need to eat, drink or even breath.
If you pull the snake fangs, they might just disappear after beeing pulled.
The spell description states that when the creature hits 0 hit points, it disappears and leaves nothing behind. I would assume that means anything that came from the familiar, fangs or poison included, would vanish with it.
Just to clarify, poison is ingested and venom is injected. This should actually be a venomous snake not a poisonous snake.
What is the point of a poisonous snake being a familiar seeing as how they can't take the attack action? Wouldn't any regular snake be basically the same? Just seems weird that they went out of their way to make "Poisonous Snake" a familiar when the "Poisonous" part of it can never be used with RAW.
while the poisonous part of the snake is useless as a wizard familiar warlocks with the pact of the chain can make them attack. also it has a +3 to dex and a 30 ft swim speed so it makes a good versatile scout
edit: none of the familiars added by pact of the chain have swim speeds so this may be the best underwater combat familiar as well.
Shouldn't it be venomous snake?
Some snakes poison can kill people in minutes, with no chance of the poison being neutralized. 5 poison damage and a 10dc saving throw is not enough
Although on the Venom/poison subject... The laws of nature could be different in D&D so this could be classed as a poisonous snake. (But yes in real life this would be a venomous snake)
Promote this man
Yup, if you bite it and you die, it's poison. If it bits you and you die, it's venom.
What about the octopus and quipper?
Edit: I realized you said pact of chain, you are correct
Actually the Quasit can turn into a toad...
Incidentally, why doesn't a snake have keen sense of smell? Snakes have pretty much got 3D smell-o-vision.
