Shapechanger. The werewolf can use its action to polymorph into a wolf-humanoid hybrid or into a wolf, or back into its true form, which is humanoid. Its statistics, other than its AC, are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Keen Hearing and Smell. The werewolf has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Multiattack. (Humanoid or Hybrid Form Only). The werewolf makes two attacks: two with its spear (humanoid form) or one with its bite and one with its claws (hybrid form).
Bite (Wolf or Hybrid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage. If the target is a humanoid, it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be cursed with werewolf lycanthropy.
Claws. (Hybrid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 7 (2d4 + 2) slashing damage.
Spear (Humanoid Form Only). Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one creature. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage, or 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage if used with two hands to make a melee attack.
Description
A werewolf is a savage predator that can appear as a humanoid, as a wolf, or in a terrifying hybrid form—a furred and well-muscled humanoid body topped by a ravening wolf’s head.
"On the other hand, they're also a nightmare for low level PCs because how many level 1-3 parties have one magical silvered weapon? And the curse is also a nightmare because, odds are that at least half the party's getting their Murderously Furry Vibe on after one encounter.
I do feel like, for a CR 3 creature, the Werewolf should have the damage resistance be magic OR silver weapons, and a more powerful version have the magic AND silver, is the Alpha or a Primal Werewolf, something very old and soaked in the 'Old Magic's."
Normal werewolves already are magical OR silver weapons, "Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing from Nonmagical Attacks that aren't Silvered" means that if you have a non-magical attack, the werewolf is immune unless the weapon is silvered. If it's a magical attack then the immunity is bypassed.
You're right.
I was thinking of the version on the DM Guild's page where it got edited to magic AND silver.
Hurrrr I r the dumb.
This is why we don't post after a 14 hour shift ...
will the spell Protection from Evil and Good possibly protect you from werewolf's even though they are shapeshifters?
How can we find out how tall it is, aside from the "medium humanoid"?
I.E.:6'3"
i'd think its just up to the dm and you can just look up heights for the rage of the shapeshifter
They are probably the same average height as whatever their race is, so a dwarf werewolf would be just shy of four feet tall, while a goliath werewolf would be twice that height or more.
In humanoid form, it makes two spear attacks. In the other two forms it bites and claws.
The Spears are the humanoid attack while the bite is the hybrid form attack
Remember that all things in the game including werewolves as player characters are at the descretion of your DM
So werewolves in werewolf form cant really harm each other because they are doing non magical damage? So they would have to carry magical or silvered weapons around for fighting other lycanthropes.
Why isn't claws available in wolf form?
Few homebrew ideas: have this be any alignment, or any non-good alignment, and don't treat this monster like any other CR3 monster because its strengths are ridiculous and it has little to no weaknesses.
1) Answer 2 has influence on this, and my answer is that it keeps its hp and damage through whatever form it takes, because it'd be unfair for the players if not, as it would at that point have three times the hp, if not then infinite hp, as this doesn't have a limit to how many times you could do it. I think the people that determined the CR thought the same way, as if not, it would rival significantly higher CR creatures with its hp.
2) It says "if it dies, it reverts to its true form," instead of "once it drops to 0 hp it reverts to its true form," so once it drops to 0 hp it's dead. I would take this as the lycanthropy no longer having a host, and therefore dying out as the host does.
3) It says that it can shapechange as an action, so if you want to, then yes, but it'll have to use its action to shapechange.
Wolf claws aren't sharp, as they're constantly out and designed for traction, not to be used as weapons. Additionally, the claws on canine animals usually aren't long enough to do anything with other than provide that traction, which would make it even harder for them to be used as weapons.
It says that the claw and bite attack is only available in hybrid form. In human form, it's done with a spear.
Dont they have regeneration? Ive seen several other werewolf stat sheets saying they also have regeneration and pack tactics

If it's in it's human form, it makes two spear attacks, rather than a bite and a claw.
Multiattack. (Humanoid or Hybrid Form Only). The werewolf makes two attacks: two with its spear (humanoid form) or one with its bite and one with its claws (hybrid form).
it says if its human it uses spear twice
it uses bite and claws if its hybrid
