Shapechanger. The werewolf can use its action to polymorph into a wolf-humanoid hybrid or into a wolf, or back into its true form, which is humanoid. Its statistics, other than its AC, are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Keen Hearing and Smell. The werewolf has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Multiattack. (Humanoid or Hybrid Form Only). The werewolf makes two attacks: two with its spear (humanoid form) or one with its bite and one with its claws (hybrid form).
Bite (Wolf or Hybrid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage. If the target is a humanoid, it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be cursed with werewolf lycanthropy.
Claws. (Hybrid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 7 (2d4 + 2) slashing damage.
Spear (Humanoid Form Only). Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one creature. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage, or 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage if used with two hands to make a melee attack.
Description
A werewolf is a savage predator that can appear as a humanoid, as a wolf, or in a terrifying hybrid form—a furred and well-muscled humanoid body topped by a ravening wolf’s head.
thank you
I find immunity to physical damage a bit weird...I mean this means that werecreatures can't hurt each other at all...and Dragons can only defeat a lycanthrope with breath attacks, added magic or grabbing them and throwing them off from the air, right?
It feels really off that a lycanthrope has immunity to physical attacks but like...ghosts doesn't.
To be fair, it is their main gimmick. Ghosts on the other hand also have flight, possession, etherealness etc.
It does create some interesting interactions with other monsters. A Young Red Dragon might plow through towns with impunity, but warily avoid a pack of werewolves. A Vampire’s perspective "bride” might willingly allow herself to be cursed with lycanthropy to avoid the vampire’s bite.
The dragon either stays in the air & uses it's breath weapon until the werewolf dies, or if it's big enough, the dragon pins the werewolf to the ground & breathes on it until the werewolf dies. The werewolf gets to do what? Throw a spear twice & then try to run away?
Werewolves would arm themselves with silver tipped claws when fighting each other, just like humans use rapiers or pistols when dueling. Though the immunity does keep random bar brawls a lot safer in Lycantown. Until the werewolf with 6+ levels in Monk shows up...
P.S. It also wouldn't be unreasonable to homebrew that lycanthrope bite / claw attacks ignore the immunity.
In human form, they just make 2 spear attacks. If in Hybrid form, they do one claw and one bite.
Can I use the polymorph spell to turn into a werewolf?
Can the polymorph spell turn you into a humanoid?
I like werewolves, their great for horror campaigns but I'm in this homebrew campaign were I'm a wolfborn which means I just turn into a regular wolf anytime I want but I was bitten by a werewolf and I failed the save so I think I'm a werewolf but Idk because wolfborns are also werewolves but minus the curse of going savage at a full moon, idk if I'm a werewolf or not in short 🤔
It said with its spear so that probably means it attacks twice with its spear but idk I'm new tbh
That's a very silly argument on your DM's side, of course Lycanthrope isn't an official race. It's not a race. It's another race being afflicted by a curse.
So what you do is pick any race, then add this curse on top. Even if your character is a born Lycantrhrope, they are technically a lycanthrope of any other race.
You don't create a werewolf by chosing it as a race but by chosing it as a custom background. I would find it agreeable/balanced, but not advised for a new player or new DM.
Simply put, a werewolf is chaotic evil. So if you play a lycanthrope then there should be a chance that when you turn, whatever alligment you had before is overwritten by the curse for the duration of when it's active resulting in you going on a rampage or something similar.
If your looking to do this with a spell, give bestow curse.
Lycantropy may fall into its more flexible effects.
How do I make a character that is a pure bred werewolf?
So, kind of an odd question, but could a Tortle contract lycanthrophy? If so how would that work. And would it be possible to have it be from a werebear?
How come werewolves don't get darkvision when wererats and weretigers do?
Are wolves just not creatures that would stalk after their prey and ambush in cover of darkness?
When you imagine a person turned into a werewolf involuntarily do you imagine it being in the middle of the afternoon when there's a light breeze, howling under the rays of a the sun?
Does lycanthropy sound like a curse someone would get from a vicious creature or dark ritual more or less often than a divine blessing bestowed upon by an angel or celestial? And even if it was given by a celestial would they not charge them to fight against the enemies of light by pursuing after them in the darkness?
How come werewolves don't have darkvision?
Would appreciate some clarification and opinions...
With lycanthropes, do they turn into an ACTUAL animal? Using werewolf as an example, I always thought the wolf form was the one pictured here, and then the hybrid was something inbetween. But, am I wrong and is the form pictured here the "hybrid" form?
I’m betting that it’s because wolves IRL don’t have great vision. They can see a little better than humans in the dark, but it’s nothing compared to a tiger’s night-vision.
I don’t know anything about rat-vision, unfortunately.
The intention is that the “wolf” form is nearly indistinguishable from an actual wolf.
However, that is only the most common type of lycanthropy, there are other variants. Many werewolves lack the “wolf” or “hybrid” form. Some werewolves have in-between forms (like “dire wolf,” or “wolfish humanoid” which I think was your version of “hybrid”).
Whatever you come up with, it’s likely precedented in old lore. I’ve seen at least 7 major variants of lycanthropy in an official article.
It makes 2 spear attacks when in human form the bite is only when it's in hybrid
Hey I know a group that plays. its all close friends but if you are still looking for a group you are up to join I can speak to them and see if you could join. its all online all you need is discord.
What if a dragon changes their shape to a humanoid, and then a werewolf bites it?
