We’ve just leveled up in a big way.
Dungeons & Dragons and D&D Beyond have always felt like a part of the same family. That’s why we’re excited to announce that D&D Beyond is formally joining Wizards of the Coast, bringing together two teams that eat, breathe, and sweat for this game and continue to strive to make D&D easy to run, exciting, and accessible to all.
You (and by you, we mean the 10 million users that have been on this adventure with us since 2017!) are probably wondering what kind of change might happen as a result of these two teams coming together, so let’s make this clear: Wizards of the Coast has no plans to stop supporting D&D Beyond. Ever. The purchases you’ve made, the characters you’ve created, and the campaigns you’ve run aren’t going anywhere.
You’ve probably got a million questions about what comes next. What we can say for sure is that we’re excited for what the future holds as we dig in with our new partners. We wish you could see the big stupid grins we’ve all been walking around with. This is truly an incredible time for all of us, and it really feels like there’s no limit to what we can accomplish for our players. Remember, the key factor that makes this partnership perfect is that these teams want one thing: to make your experience playing the World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game even better.
If you’ve been on this journey with us for a while, we’re so glad you’re here. If you’re brand new and clicked on the site today to figure out what the big news was all about, welcome! Remember to register for a free account! (Sorry, couldn’t help ourselves.) We’ll have more to share with you throughout the year, so tune in to the Dev Update, which airs on Twitch on Thursdays at 10 a.m. PT, and check out new content right here on dndbeyond.com.

Thats not true, when you purchase a movie you get a link to a free digital copy most of the times
so just to be clear: everything we've made/bought via our dndbeyond account will be staying the same and is not being affected by this merge (for the most part at least) correct?
The DVD yes, but thats giving the same experience as the DVD, Im talking about buying a movie ticket. a better analogy would be buying a game on xbox, they dont give you the other systems versions.
so you would quit playing a game if a company makes an exclusive VTT? that just seems ridiculous
Why? Those other VTTs will still exist, just use those instead.
DDB is already developing its own VTT, and has been for a while now. That’s what the whole “Encounters” section is building towards.
If you knew what Hasbro did to MTG/MTG:Arena, you'd be frightened instead of happy.
How do I transfer my account to WotC?
would we be able to scan the bar codes on our hard covers to get them online at no extra cost? ( I didn't see summing about it yet)
That barcode is unique to the product but it is the same on every product of the same type and has to be, it is unique to the book, there is no other product in the world with that same barcode (assuming they have been supplied by the GS1. This global not for profit company provide unique barcodes to over 2 million member companies ensuring all there barcodes are unique and no 2 companies will ever have the same barcode.
So using your argument I could simply walk into a book shop, scan every bar code and then walk out again.
If I had to use that VTT to play that game, when my friends and I are all on a a different one for all the other games we play, yes.
Because if Wizards makes a DND VTT it will make it the only VTT that works with DND, it will remove the licenses from roll 20 etc, stop intervention with DND beyond and make it that you have to buy there product. That then, for my friends and I, means we are paying for 2 VTTs.
Sweet! What'll that mean for UAs, though, you think? Will they be an official part of DnD Beyond now?
But if you are already paying for DDB, and DDB releases its own internal VTT, then you would already be paying for it for the same cost you currently pay to use DDB and your VTT. See what i mean? Don’t you get it? It wouldn’t be “that VTT,” it will be “this VTT.”
Ahem. steam and riot and blizzard came up with a solution ages ago.
