The public beta for digital dice launched yesterday on D&D Beyond, and thousands of fans have already rolled millions of times to see that first "20" land on their screens.
The D&D Beyond team has taken the task seriously of helping people across the world play games and connect with one another during the unprecedented times of this pandemic. Knowing that we can bring even the smallest amount of joy in the midst our global situation provides a real sense of purpose, and we appreciate the reports of happiness brought about by these pixels bouncing across your character sheets more than you know.
Starting today, you will be able to unlock new dice sets for your collection, including the colorful 'Pigment Pack' and a fully-animated 'Mythic Set.' You can check out both in the Marketplace. There will be plenty more where they came from in the days ahead.
We are also acutely aware of recent events that call into stark focus the systemic racial injustice that continues to exist in the world. We understand that messaging from companies often lands hollow without action, and we do not wish to remain silent in the face of this. For the next week (through June 9th), D&D Beyond will donate 50% of all proceeds from digital dice sets to the Black Lives Matter movement.
We stand in solidarity with the Black community against racism, discrimination, and senseless acts of violence.
Dude, that's a pretty whiny post to place on a cool thing they're doing to benefit a very important cause right now.
I'm a DM and pay for the subscription and books too. I get more out of it than just ease for my players. If you don't benefit from it in the present state, why then did you buy it? So you could turn around and whine about what they haven't done for you yet? Those things are great and the community will love to have and I'm sure are in progress for the future.
You're also talking about "too many irons in the fire" just after asking them to work on four huge projects.
Just seems like a really petty thing to bring up right now, man.
If you want a brilliant VTT that can integrate with DnDBeyond, get Foundry. I just switch to it, and while it's a bit of a set up there are amazing integrated plugins that community have created that tie into DnDBeyond. I spent $50 on Foundry and the time and effort it's going to save me as a DM is incredible. And makes me even happier about also having DnDBeyond for my players. You can import many monsters directly from DnDBeyond into Foundry, are and all stats, and you just drag and drop onto your map. Other plugin even auto-rolls the HP for you. The combat tracker in there is awesome and versatile.
Just sayin, there are other solutions and life improvements out there right now to find rather than waiting for DnDbeyond to do exactly what you want. Peace.
The choice to be able to live in a bubble if you want, is privilege.
I understand what you are saying, even if I completely disagree with it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Without being too wordy, this movement is about basic human rights and equality, more than it has ever been about political affiliations. I would ask that you please expose yourself to more of the movement than gets published via traditional news, which may help provide a broader perspective.
While I respect that everyone has the right to an opinion. Kindly keep your virtue signaling out of my escapism.
You can just ignore it. Wait a week, buy the dice then. But it means a lot to others to know they are supported. And supporting BLM doesn't mean you *aren't* supported.
Ever heard the phrase "A bad apple spoils the bunch"?
Sure, most cops are good, but there are too many bad ones. The bad ones ruin the community's overall view on all cops.
Plus the fact that officers that engage in police brutality are charged half as much for the same crimes as any other normal citizen.
I think what is polarizing everyone is the idea that DND Beyond should be involved or not involved on political issues. Yes this idea behind BLM is that it is for equality so one could argue this a human issue not a political one. It is both and we all need to accept that.
Beyond is not a neutral platform, legally they can edit/remove comments on the forum, threads, publish content and give however much of proceeds from purchases to any organization of their choosing. They have that right to exercise. Anyone posting here has a right to post their opinions about it as well. Personally I would love Beyond to stay neutral, but I respect their right to not do so. I personally believe there were many times Byond could have supported other organizations or reliefs, but I respect their right to no do so. I personally believe that BLM has people who care and are attempting to protest peacefully and others that are part of BLM that are setting fires, destroying property and hurting people which is doing more harm than good and is silencing the voices that really should be heard. If I want the dice, but don't currently support BLM I have the right to wait until June 10th. DnD can bring people from all walks of life together to escape and join together in storytelling and gaming. That I will always appreciate about it and that is my focus when I come on here.
It's not virtue signalling when they're putting their money where their mouth is, my friend.
But those two "bads" aren't comparable. African Americans are getting murdered and abused with little to no consequence on the few police that abuse their power. The rioters are breaking and burning objects.
And them breaking and burning doesn't help them. It actually gives trump and the police an excuse to be racist and do things like that. Not all will, and I think many won't. But some will, and it will be a valid reason to many people. I agree and acknowledge what you are saying, but you are slightly cherry picking. Some are being peaceful, and should continue to do so. But others are being violent, and stopping the hard work of others.
Donating is great, but it being tied to Theros has me thinking. Many critique the genre of fantasy as supporting white supremacy by being tied very heavily to the European classical/medieval tradition. I think it would be great if DnD Beyond featured some Black Creators from DMs Guild, or featured some content that gave less euro-centric stories. Afro-fantasy is a rising genre, and Afro-futurism has a lot we can look to to inspire us. Here is a list a found to get people started thinking. https://bookriot.com/2019/01/22/african-fantasy-novels/
Quoted for truth.
Thank you for caring for my family’s life by supporting.
Bought the dice but glad to hear my money will be going to a good cause! ✊🏻
General question. Is there a list somewhere that outlines everything D&D Beyond supports or donates money to? This makes me want to know where my subscription money goes.
MLK and Malcolm X only met once because Malcolm X was murdered less than year later. They met on March 26th, 1964 and Malcolm was assassinated on February 21st, 1965. A chance for a second meeting was entirely possible as Malcolm had met with King Jr's wife Corretta in early February 1965 while King was traveling in Selma, AL. During this meeting he stated that he wanted to work more closely with the nonviolent movement noting that his verbal attacks on King had drawn the attention of white Americans to his more radical approach making King Jr's moderate approach a more acceptable alternative. But it was never going to happen anyway because King Jr. and associates were later arrested in Selma and Malcolm's subsequent assassination just weeks later made the meeting impossible.
Furthermore, Malcom X WAS NOT a part of the Black Panther Party. He was a member of and spokesman for The Nation of Islam. The Black Panther Party didn't even start to take shape until October 1966 in Oakland, CA a year AFTER Malcolm X was assassinated in NYC.
The Black Panther Party and The Nation of Islam are not the same thing.
If you're going to quote history, please at least know what you're talking about first.
I did it. Nice dice, nice cause
Besides containing a lot of false information, please think about the implications of a post before you post it.
1. Most protesters and rioters aren't assaulting people. Again, even if they are, it's at least understandable to why they are doing this, and warranted through a hundreds of years of oppression.
2. Two wrongs don't make a right, but a wrong raises more media coverage than a right does. More media coverage means more people talking about it. When people start talking about a problem, things can change. Things don't change if people aren't aware of a problem.
3. Peaceful protests don't work anymore to cause change. There are a lot of peaceful protests right now, but they don't get as much changed as a riot.
4. I'm not advocating for violence, just make sure that you know why they are doing this.
5. Don't minimize the problem by saying more black people die from other black people than police. That doesn't change the fact that some police are still racist and acting on this racism. I don't know where you got those numbers, what they actually mean, but the fact that you're trying to say "Well, yes, they are dying, but . . ." sounds like whataboutism.
6. All Americans have a social code that we will obey the law in exchange for protection. When this code is broken and police abuse their power and kill African Americans, how can we complain when they get angry and start breaking and burning things?
Why is dnd a political entity.
When did you buy them?
