D&D Beyond is excited to announce the release of the all-new, consolidated D&D Beyond App! Gone are the days of two separate apps: we’ve combined the power of the D&D Beyond toolset with new mobile features to make your Dungeons & Dragons 5th-edition games more accessible and more fun. The app is available to download for free on iOS and Android.
The toolset makes it easier to reference D&D content, with features ranging from a guided character creation, dynamic character sheets and spell management, plus the ability to search and bookmark books in your library. The app is the perfect mobile solution for every D&D player — whether you’re a new player, a veteran campaigner, or legendary Dungeon Master.
Play with Advantage
Mobile character creation is easier with the character builder tool walking you through every step of the character creation process. You’ll never have to enter a game without your character sheet again — access your characters online or offline and be ready for skill checks, attack rolls, saving throws, or whatever twists your DM throws at you. Manage your character's health, abilities, spells, and inventory.
Forgot your dice? Roll directly in the app with themed digital dice sets!
Dungeon Masters will enjoy the ability to easily access monster stat blocks and game rules in the D&D Beyond App. Bookmark your favorite monsters or frequently used rules, search spells, and gaze longingly over your backlog of characters you'd love to play (some day, maybe...).
What if I already own the Player App or Reader App?
Adventurers who have the D&D Beyond Player App will simply need to update the app to access the new tools! If you are using the D&D Beyond Reader App, you'll need to migrate over to the new app.
Have you bought the whole book, or just specific monsters? The original reader app worked with the compendium content I think; so if you only bought parts of the Volo's guide, that might be the cause - although it shouldn't be in this new integrated shiny app as it doesn't make sense anymore.
Theoretically that you can use it without a network connection. Practically for me it's way less usable - the website at least doesn't try to destroy my eyes.
Thanks for bringing that up. I love using the web interface on my laptop because I can have everything open in separate tabs, but haven't tried it on a mobile device. That solves the issue I just mentioned in my previous post. I don't know why I never thought to try it.
When I have a laptop or Chromebook with me I will stick with doing it that way, I only use my phone when camping becasue I usually don't have WiFi...or ample table space.
For the moment, a good deal of purchased content isn’t showing up.
woot!
The point is for offline access to the content. Most useful at conventions where you can't get a signal of course, but also useful for anyone not living in a city.
Id have to say I’m disappointed. Love DnDB and will always use it, but this update just looks... not useful. Both apps separately were barely usable as it was, I imagined that this would have fixed a lot of the main issues with the original versions: Compendium still doesnt let you search via “owned” books, or at least let you save the filter settings. Seems pushy that they force inaccessible content only to be blocked with “buy now for $25.00”. Cause I will for sure, In my own time. At least let me search for only my owned content already.
the character management side is sad too. No character editing, No inventory management, nothing. Why would anyone bother with this? You can literally save dndb pages to offline content on mobile phones and it would essentially do this.
I love what dndbeyond offers but I kind of feel that its a really slow on the priorities. This is the most famous dnd has ever been and we’re taking years before we get any decent updates. Tasha’s additional feats like fighting initiate dont even work yet. Whats taking so long? I want this to be a success, but it took you two years to combine the two apps with no improvements?
im sure with the amount of subscribers and content thats being bought is providing enough financial support. Strike while the iron is hot!
i have the whole book or atleast should
So when can we expect to get any dice or cosmetics in the app that we bought on the website?
[Cr1TiKaL voice] WHOOOOOOO YEAHHH BABYYYYYY
My only gripe is that it's still kinda weird that you can't access certain entries in the app unless you have the entire book (e.g., purchasing the Aasimar race but only being able to see it if you've purchased VGtM as a whole, which I'm probably never going to do), but still neat that it's out!
Now, add the ability to save your preferences. The default of no Tasha's and yes to only Core and... MtG? I have to readjust all of the settings every time. Please let us save these.
It’s out now. I saw an option to do just that.
You’ve added the one thing I wanted out of the app. Filtering the books down to what I own. I am a happy DM now.
Also good for people with one monitor and playing virtually on something like Owlbear Rodeo
Syncing between devices would be killer. And I don't know why it couldn't end up on the full site in your profile...like as a My Bookmarks section next to My Characters and My Campaigns.
Same here with the, “But I already own that!” problem. Own DMG and Monster Manual in full, and both are still accessible via website. But on app? It wants me to rebuy them.
All other owned content is coming up okay. Seems like glitches are random. Will give it time to shake out before I start cage rattling.
I like that everything is compiled into one easy to use app, but im just curious when the develeopment team is going to make it possible to adjust item and equipment inventory without having to view the character sheet on the website. it adds a whole lotta extra steps.

I don't seem to be able to manage my character's spells in the iOS version. When is this feature rolling out?
At the very least if you click on a character’s portrait in the app you can select your dice
