After spending the casting time tracing magical pathways within a precious gemstone, you touch a Huge or smaller beast or plant. The target must have either no Intelligence score or an Intelligence of 3 or less. The target gains an Intelligence of 10. The target also gains the ability to speak one language you know. If the target is a plant, it gains the ability to move its limbs, roots, vines, creepers, and so forth, and it gains senses similar to a human's. Your GM chooses statistics appropriate for the awakened plant, such as the statistics for the awakened shrub or the awakened tree.
The awakened beast or plant is charmed by you for 30 days or until you or your companions do anything harmful to it. When the charmed condition ends, the awakened creature chooses whether to remain friendly to you, based on how you treated it while it was charmed.
* - (an agate worth at least 1,000 gp, which the spell consumes)
Oh right Hold Person only works on humanoids. But I thought the Tarrasque was a beast. It makes sense that it's actually a monstrosity though
Lol time to homebrew a lobotomy spell.
Would this stack with a band of intelligence? (I think that's what it's called, the thing that raises INT.)
Rules as Written, yes, attunement still needs to happen though.
So, if say, I had a family of Awoken bears who all were attuned to the Headband of Intellect, I could make them all become extra intelligent. Thanks.
Actually a magic item that requires attunement can only have one creature attuned to it at a time, so you would need a Headband of Intellect for each of the bears.
Alright, that's gold I'm prepared to spend in exchange for a hyper intelligent bear squad.
Which creature group do awakened creatures fall under? Are they considered pets, beast companions, or sidekicks?
Alright, so I just had a new idea. Does the 'Awaken' spell get passed on to it's children if both parents are awakened? Because, I recently aqquired the knowledge that:
1: Giant crabs are in the game.
2: The average female crab can, in fact, lay up to 100,000 eggs.
Sooooo.... I have decided I may try to create the 'Crab'o'mancer' as a BBEG, who's henchman are mostly awakened beasts and corrupted nature spirits, and I want to have a Giant Intelligent Crab Army.
so, would this work? Is there anything stating wheter or not being awakened can be passed down to offspring?
I don’t think there is anything saying whether or not 2 awakened animals have awakened children, so it’s probably up to the DM.
Per RAW, awaken cannot target an ape (regular or giant), baboon, clawfoot, crag cat, cranium rat, deinonychus, dolphin, fastieth, flying monkey, giant eagle, giant elk, giant octopus, giant owl, giant rocktopus, giant sea eel, giant vulture, giant weasel, sea lion, tressym, or velociraptor.
Some of these I understand but on the whole this feels like a design flaw to me. I want an in-game explanation for a talking deinonychus or the ability to create a DC Comics-style Gorilla City. Let a talking dolphin guide my party to the hidden city of the sea elves!
As a wild magic sorcerer who frequently turns into a potted plant this spell is a nightmare. Loosing my character for 30 in game days might as well become an npc
I have come across the intelligence that my DM is letting me have the Staff of the Woodlands in my campaign and the staff can cast awaken as an action without a gem...
If you truly wanna rule the world, you must be a druid.
Awaken + Farm Animals = Animal Farm
PIG ARMY!!!!!
Thats a good question and I would say its up to your DM...
BUT I think this is feasible. The mental stats change so I don't see why you couldn't awaken a polymorphed creature. If you DM doesn't like that, ask if you can make an arcana check to see if you can awaken the polymorphed creature.
Maybe the creature would come out of the awakening as soon as it is brought out of polymorph... but I don't know.
Quick question:
I if used Mirage Arcane to create a forest, could I hypothetically cast Awaken on a tree and have an illusory/real awakened tree?
Even if it was a beast or plant, the tarrasque doesn't match the size requirement.
The Great Deku Tree is real now! The Windfish can be real! All the Zelda and other random bollocks you can think of!
Also i would argue you couldn't 'remove awaken' from a creature / Plant because it gains sentience from consuming the agate. Stop looking for short cuts and have some fun you lazy butts!
You could have a super intelligent warforged colossus
Awaken a zombie
