So, if this helps, I am only just learning how to play DnD. I am planning to play a Changeling Bard. Could some of you give me some tips on which college I should pick at third level? I wanna be a bard that can support allies while also being able to hold my own in combat. Thanks!
Most of the bard subclasses are equal in their support and combat abilities, but it is in what method they support/fight that differs.
Lore bards make good skill monkey, can support defensively, and get more spells at level 6 so also are the closest thing to a spellslinger subclass bards get.
Sword bards are little better in melee (armor, weapons, fighting style, extra attack) and get battlefield control abilities.
Valor bards get slightly less melee buffs (no fighting style) and instead of control it increases allies combat effectivness, also still gets extra attack.
Glamour bards are more about out of combat control, their in combat abilities make retreating and regrouping easier.
Whisper bards have some similar out of battle control, but in battle they can use bardic inspiration uses to dona psychic smite when they attack.
The UA Eloquence bard is basically the face outside of combat (able to talk to and get advantage on all CHA skills against any creature regardless of language) and is a cheerleader in combat (able to do minor healing/damage and advantage/disadvantage on saves for free).
Well, from what DxJxC said, it sounds like Swords is more offensive while Valor is more supportive. From there I would say think about your character (and party). Do you want your character to be one of the major damage dealers, or do you want them to help boost your allies while providing smaller amounts of damage?
I think I'm gonna be go with the College of Valor, because I have a feeling that I might die way more times as a Swords bard. I'm not saying they're bad, I'm just not that good at being extremely offensive, and I've found I've become a great supporter in many other games.

You know, I wish there were summaries this clear for every subclass :P

I think either the College of Swords or the College of Valor fits my description. But they both look good, so I'm still having trouble deciding.

I am a huge fan of the Glamour bard. The Mantle of Inspiration is great at keeping your allies alive and out of tight spots.
