I play an Oath of the Ancients Paladin. I like that it frees me up to be more of a priestess which matches my acolyte background. Plus the idea of spreading love and joy instead of being the serious one works for me.
Why so many vengeance pallies? They aren't the coolest (oathbreaker), nor the most metal (ancients), nor the nicest (devotion), nor the most powerful (oathbreaker)?

I don't get it.
Oath of Vengeance is;
Cooler than oathbreaker, because breaking and oath for a paladin isn't a cool thing even tho he/she broke the oath with a cool move/action/move/decision it's breaking and oath still.
Stronger than oathbreaker, because both systematically and rp'ingly, vengeance Paladins has balls to step up and seek for the trouble to face it, where oathbreakers are falling on and on to make his life.
Crown is unfavorably made an example as a LN-type when the applications are nearly limitless. You can be everything from a paragon of your realm's law, a holy crusader, a vigilante or Gestapo Knight, etc.
They have great tanking abilities and the fluff, as mentioned above, is the wonderful aspect of the archetype.

In the Light, we gather to empower our brother. In its grace, he will be made anew. In its power, he shall educate the masses. In its strength, he shall combat the shadow. And, in its wisdom, he shall lead his brethren to the eternal rewards of paradise.
I chose the Oath of Devotion because it seemed like a solid paladin oath for someone who just wants a Lawful Good character. I'm actually pretty disappointed with the Oath spells- almost all of them are already on the paladin list- it adds nothing new at all! I think the Oath of Vengeance has the best spells to add by a long shot (holy cow, HASTE!).
Other than a mediocre spell list, Devotion seems pretty fine so far.
The Channel Divinity option seems alright- it's not as strong as the Vengeance Oath vs single targets, but I get my bonus to hit vs everyone so it evens out.
Lore-wise, I find ancients, and devotion pretty cool. Devotion is your cleric stand-in and fits the old 3.x "lawful-goody" lore. Ancients are bringers of light and goodwill (which is vague, but ok) and get amazing abilities to boot!
But there is a point to the path spells, even being on the paladins list already, you don't have to prepare them... they are always there, no prayer, no prep, just spell slot and go. The three groups I've played with, even an adventure league game, didn't understand this and as a result we never had a healer... everyone thought druids and clerics still had to prepare every single slot. When I pointed out that then there would be little point in domain/oath spells the DM shrugged and said they'd fix it in later revisions.

For my attack I will throw my spear...two handed...for 1d8...
Spontaneous casting of spells is alright if the spells are useful, but I haven't found a lot of use for the Oath of Devotion spells in the game I am playing in. I find myself looking enviously at the Vengeance Oath spells 'hold person' and 'haste' rather often.
I would like to play as a Doomguide paladin with Kelemvor as my deity like the Grave domain cleric but sadly, there is no official or UA oath that fits yet. I like Vengeance and Conquest but they are not really a good fit.
In a way, oathbreaker never made a lot of sense to me. Paladins get their magic from the oaths to their gods, right? So you break that oath, they stop sharing that magic. In other words, a former paladin of a broken oath is now called: a fighter. ;b
Also Vengeance is really popular because A) everyone wants to feel like the bamf, B) everyone wanted to get away from the original overused trope of the goodie two shows of the group and C) vow of enmity super strong. You throw advantage swings down on a primary target, and it's a bonus action so you can even do that in the same turn you start your beat down.
You compare that to something like Devotion where it's like "eh, guess I'll turn my weapon into a +1 magic weapon." For something that comes back on a short rest, there's not much competition.
For my money, I've yet to find my perfect paladin oath. Love Ancient's spells and aura, hate the channel divinity. Love Crown's channel divinity, but the oath spells are largely redundant. Devotion is decent for both spells and divinity, but anti-charm aura is highly situational. Vengeance is solid, but I miss having that extra aura passive. It's like, oath spells, divinity, and aura are the three main aspects, and most of them pick two to be really solid.

I haven't yet gotten the chance to actually play the paladin yet, not until next month, but let's see where devotion takes me. I'm just getting into this, but I chosethe Paladin in light of my own beliefs in real life, believe it or not ...

Just an average metalhead who plays DnD in his spare time.
PbP Character: Roberta Thalan, Void Beyond the Stars Otherside
PbP Character: Primus Eidolon, Eotha 2
PbP Character: Usmor Illiqai, Tomb of Corrosion
PbP Character: "Templar" Danver, You're the Villains
Homebrew stuff
Lets see who gets the amazing level 10 ability - Ancients. Huh. Oh, and
OATHBREAKER
Also, its cool to be a rebel. A rebel for a cause.
Also, have you even seen the oathbreaker? They have ridiculously good abilities. Which includes the level 20 ability of death.

I'm partial to the Oath of the Crown as I like the great tanking abilities it provides.

Redemption. I love the roleplay aspect of it.
I use conquest but that is because it is the only Oath that I felt fit an Orc Paladin of Grumsch
Loex - A Lizardfolk Lvl 4/6/4 Hexblade Profane Blood Hunter/ Battlesmith Artificer/ Cleric of the Forge
Arborea - A Warforged Lvl 1 Hexblade Warlock

My gods! This thread has really blown up!

Well, the last time I played a paladin, I went with dragonborn Vengence paladin, simply because I liked fluffing all the fear powers as Dragonfear.
