Most likely sorcerer. Aside from subtle counterspell, you also have access to multiclass options like paladin or warlock. That being said, I'd say a wizard could maybe win if they had more time to prepare.
And this is the statement I most agree with. Sorcerers don't prepare, they are just strong on their own. With prep time, there's no way a Wizard wouldn't win. Just glyph of warding a silence and forcecage where the Sorcerer will go and you win.

Max level? Sorceror every time. I actually did a pvp with the wizard in my group, and I killed him. He had to start a new character. Could depend on initiative count though, because magic missile can blind and seriously impede casting.
In all seriousness, Sorcerers most likely have slightly more raw power, due things like empowered spell and twinned spell, but the wizards insane versatility is a serious advantage, and the broad range of spells they have is insane. Wizards also have far superior Sub Classes. In some ways, it could come down to who get the first turn, but regardless, I'd put my bet on the wizard.
Probably sorcerers (metamagic, can get more spell slots using sorcery points). Wizards are great, but sorcerers are better at fighting.
Agreed. Sorcerers' mechanics make them ideal blaster casters, but a wizard's utility cannot be understated. Although a wizard will rarely win in a one-on-one fight, with a sorcerer or otherwise, a high level party with a wizard's utility is nigh-unstoppable.
