I am... gonna be honest. In my opinion warlock just plain sucks. Heck, ranger is better. ranger is the worst class, or is usually made out to be. Here is why.
Hit Points: Ranger
AC: Unless Hexblade, Ranger wins.
Spell slots: Oh. My. God. WaRlOcK iS a PrImArIlY cAsTeR and freaking ranger has more!
Damage: I guess... Eldritch blast is decent for up to 3d10, but here is my ranger-y reply. extra attack using greatsword, 4d6 + 1d8 from colossus slayer. (Because beast master sucks.)
RP Value: Okay, okay. Warlock wins this one.
Access: if you hexblade, equal armor and weaponry access. BUT, let's be honest, nobody makes a pure hexblade. Sure, hexblade IS multiclass gold, but ranger is just BETTER.
Multiclass dips: Most people will defend like this -- Hexblade is multiclassing gold, you said this yourself, DDB. Yeah, well, watch this.
Warlock is Good at _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __ __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __ Ranger is good at
Sorc. (Fine.)- Druid. Extra attack, col slay, with wild shape and good casting. tbh just get cleric, druid sucks, but... some people do that. (Yes, I'm looking at you, [Not my information to share]
Bard? (Come on. Just go for sorc. what a lame excuse) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _monk. casting variability if you go for the whole, W4E build, AND! you also get... dare I say it? Open hand. So. I could write freaking guides on this, but... they're equal. with maybe a tiny lean towards hexblade...
Hex Ran MC ARGUMENT about the medium armour stuff.
Lotsa people go into hex because of medium armour prof. so does ranger.
I'm not going to bother reading through 8 pages of posts from 5 years ago, but I'm just going to share this:
I just hit level 11 with my warlock, which means I now have 3 beams of eldritch blast totaling 3D10+22 damage. With my invocations and feats, I can use these to push someone up to 40ft every round. I can use this 40ft to continuously push a target into a Sickening Radiance that I'm concentrating on, which is another 4D10 and a level of exhaustion each round. Those exhaustion levels can quickly destroy an enemy's capabilities. The second level cuts their speed in half, and at that point most enemies have no hope of escaping it.

and... every single class can deal that much damage by just having two levels of warlock.
heres my Variant Human Fighter Battlemaster... he's 9 levels of fighters and 2 levels of warlock Magic initiate feat from the beginning... spell chosen, hex, eldritch blast cantrip and sword burst for whirlwind type attacks. since he has the eldritch blast cantrip, the hex spell and levels count toward total levels not specific class for cantrips... he deals at a distance... 3d10 (eldritch blast) + 15 (charisma bonus thanks to invocation) + 3d6 necrotic (hex spell) target is pushed 30 feet, not 40. i dont know how you get +22 on eldritch blast and i even less understand how you can push 40 feet. then i do action surge and redo the whole thing again.
this was talked about a lot... warlock is definitely strong at low levels, but going all the way in is not worth it. 6 levels is what i would say optimal. but i do understand the need to go full archetypes for people... so yeah 14 level is worth it somehow... but beyond that you are losing badly to every other classes.
but yeah... the problem is that any classes taking just 2 levels of warlock can do everything you described !!!

Its not hard, hit with four beams and you push 40.
They're only an 11th-level character though. So that's three beams. Repelling Blast will allow you to shove away 10' per hit in a straight line., so that's just 30'.
Dao Genie Warlock using Genie's Wrath (+2 Bludgeoning Damage on hit with an attack once per turn) and Crusher Feat (includes forced move 5' on hit with bludgeoning damage) and Telekinetic Feat (Includes bonus action to move target 5' if target fails voluntary Strength Save) could get up to 40' though.
Even with Agonizing Blast, though +22 seems odd. It's too low for adding in the average damage of an ongoing hex if 20 Cha and Agonizing blast (and still a skosh low for 18 Cha if Genie's wrath is in play) , so I'm not sure what the configuration is there.

You've basically got my main build worked out there. As for the damage: I've got a Tome of Leadership and Influence boosting me to 22 charisma. So I have +6 on each beam (+18). Genie's wrath scales with proficiency bonus, which adds 4 for a total of +22 when hitting the three beams.

oh thats what i was missing ! cool ! i figured out that you probably had magical items working for you.
isn't genies wrath only working on first hit though ? its once per turn on "AN" attack, not all attacks. so it would be +22 on first hit, then +18 on subsequent hit. thats still something, i mean more damage is better, but it is like sneak attack and not working on numerous attacks

I think warlocks are fine; they are probably my favorite class at the moment. They aren't overpowered, nor do I feel they are weak. I presently like to MC into another caster class to get a couple of lower level spell slots to fiddle with for utility purposes, but it's not a must-have.
The only thing I find problematic is that warlock dips are a bit too good, mostly because eldritch blast scales off character level rather than warlock level. I 100% expect that to be changed in 6e. Eldritch blast becoming a class feature rather than a cantrip will solve the 90% of the issues, and the rest should be solved with 6e's changes on class frontloading. I also hope that they flavor EB to be a bit more thematic in damage type rather than easy-mode force damage. Like, fiend should give fire damage, celestial should be radiant, undead should be necrotic, etc.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

Yes, Genie's wrath is once per turn. You aren't adding that 22 damage to each attack, as that'd be unbelievably broken. 3D10+22 is for three beams, hence why the 4 is added.
In other words, the first beam is 1D10+10, and the next two are 1D10+6 each.

I personally don't know who you are supposed to be "burning" but heres my take.
If you are somewhat intelligent and are fine with not being the star of the game, then warlock is fine.
It certainly is better than ranger, but thats up for debate if you are not ok with it.
