Evocation. Something about flying around dropping fireballs has always spoken to me.
Anything that can be sequenced, too. Love me a Delayed Blast Fireball sitting above someone's head and slamming a Forcecage around them. Or using Walls of Stone in geometrically accurate ways that allow a lightning bolt to rebound repeatedly.
Enchantment all the way, they have a good mix of uses in and out of combat, which is where DND really seems to shine- it's also fairly unique in that you can do things with it that you could never really do in a video game- played well and with a permissive DM it's very powerful, which is why my go-to wizard build since I started playing in 4e has been a Tiefling Enchanter.
My answer is going slightly off course for the original topic.
I had no real favorite. What I love is character progression based on game play and original concept. I have a happy go lucky Forest Gnome who is slowly turning Necromancer due to a dead mentors memoirs. I am seriously enjoying the turn of events leading to the darker side of Wizardry. The play from LVL1 to our current 3 has been great. so looking forward to LVL 5 and my first Animate Dead....oh the look on the Aasimar's face!
For game use and battlefield control I think Illusion has the edge though.
So far in 5e I've only reached level 2 with a wizard (although she is extremely close to level 3) so my experience is limited but I can offer the following insights regarding Grease.
Pros:
Enemies move more slowly through the grease patch so squishier characters like my wizard can get away from them
Enemies may fall prone, resulting in them having even less movement available
Enemies may fall prone so the fighter is less likely to be at the mercy of a nat 1 on attack rolls
Cons:
Cast too often and other players will wonder what the wizard gets up to in their bedchambers
I LOVE necromancy spells that animate the dead! Their great if you need a helping hand (or crawling claw).

Devious serpent folk devoid of compassion, yuan-ti manipulate other creatures by arousing their doubts, evoking their fears, and elevating and crushing their hopes. From remote temples in jungles, swamps, and deserts, the yuan-ti plot to supplant and dominate all other races and to make themselves gods.
So as you know their are 8 different schools/ types of spells so I was wondering what type of spells do people like to play the most.
Personally for me it is Illusion spells.

I'm a big fan of those spells that are very versatile in their uses, abjuration has a lot.

I like anything that can be used for either utility or crowd control. So no school in particular, just a specific use case.

Transmutation is cool. Some good buffs, lots of good mobility spells, and then there is polymorph and disintegrate.
