When I look at my purchases and pre-orders, some show very distracting/flashy multicolored borders around them, that steal my attention from actual un-owned items.
I don't want to continue seeing what the Marketing Dept thought would entice me to buy items after I already own them (SPOILER: it wasn't the green trim).
Also, I think you define your preferred language in your profile. So, I'm not sure why the perpetual Italian announcement is necessary.
"FEATURED RELEASE"...uh huh, I still own it.
"ITALIAN COMPENDIUM NOW AVAILABLE"...Non mi interessa.
"AVAILABLE NOW FOR PRE-ORDER"...yep, bought it, and still waiting.
I dont think they need to remove the trims (I kind of like them, it helps me keep track of which booms just came out), so much as I think they need a toggle that hides all purchased content.
A text date purchased (or published) would accomplish that without the need for the annoying/distracting/inconsistent look-and-feel of the page.
But I'm all for hiding (or separating) purchased content from new. DnD Beyond may not be too keen on offering that view because there's not much new to buy at any given moment, if you're like me and buy everything.
I care more about the soul crushing experience of being excited to make a character--the initial excitement--then realizing you can't get the background you want unless you fork over money. The greed and audacity of WotC. I came into this happy to eventually buy e-copies of the books that I ALREADY OWN...but this underhanded gatekeeping for the PRIVALEGE OF being environmentaslly conscious--taking the paperless route? Unacceptable and BEYOND disappointing. Typical hypicritical West Coast company--money obviously more important than the environment, yet pretend they care. BACK TO PENCIL AND PAPER FOR ME. Waaaay overpriced e-content.

It’s your money and your choice how to spend it, so I’m not trying to convince you to buy in here. I just want to point out that D&D Beyond is not WOTC. They are a separate company. They no more owe you free access to the content of the D&D books than Gale Force Nine owes you a free copy of their spell cards.
Also, folks who don’t want to pay here because they already have the books can always homebrew things. I’ve done that some, but usually decide that the time it takes me to do so is worth the $1.99 it costs to by the option.
Again, no worries if you continue to choose to stick with pen and paper. Happy gaming!
D&D Beyond is a separate company (owned by Fandom) located in Alabama. They have to pay a licensing fee to Wizards for access to the books, plus pay their staff for the effort of digitizing them and adding all of the tooltips and hyperlinks. And then on top of that the network infrastructure costs for running servers etc.
That is indeed a different story. Honestly shocked WotC hasn't commited any resources to their OWN such endeavors. My mistake. Nonetheless $30 per book is quite steep by any e-book standard. I'm assuming purchasing the e-PHB would unlock all the CHARACTER CREATION CONTENT that is in the PHB and so forth with all the books and content respectively?

Why would WotC waste resources building their own team when Curse was willing to work with them, using their existing experience to build DDB? They have committed resources in the past (D&D Insider) and it didn't go great. Curse has experience and approached WotC to create DDB.
The content on DDB is not ebooks, it's compendium content with character builder integration. It's a database of the information standardised and indexed for quick access.
If you buy the full book, yes, you get every option contained within that book pre-configured to work with the character builder.
If you buy the full book, then yes, you get access to everything in it across the site. Which means you can take advantage of the filterable spells, magic items, and monster listings under game rules as well as have access to all of the books content in the character creator and encounter builder.
There is a compendium only version of each book (usually $10 less) that is just a digitized book without granting access to its content anywhere else.
On the plus side, if you decide you only need a few things to start, like a single feat and subclass, you can buy those items individually for like $2 each. Then later on if you realize you actually need everything, when you buy the book, any of the itemized purchases are deducted from the cost, so you don't lose any money.
Right now there is a lull in discount codes, but if you periodically check the coupon thread (link in signature) you should be able to get 20 to 25% off. Which takes the PHB down to just over $20.
If you have the cash to spare and want everything, those discount codes also usually apply to the legendary bundle.
I'm still in the, "shut up and take my money" camp, even though I have literally thousands invested in re-purchases of all the physical books here, at Roll20, and in Fantasy Grounds for not just WotC, but Paizo, Kobold Press, and many other RPG publishers.
All I'm asking of DnD Beyond is for a more consistent look-and-feel of what I imagine are a bunch of static objects in the Marketplace right now.
Basically your Store needs to be way smarter than it is. It looks amateurish that you don't know what your users already own when you call attention to some items over others. There's too much competition in VTT right now than to provide a confusing storefront.
I will say DnD Beyond is a huge hype machine compared to Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds. You need to be spending more money on VTT Developers to catch up to your competitors and start actually being able to host games--not just build characters. How many years have we had a free PCGEN to do that?
Yeah I'll probably wait till cyber Monday or X-mas or something and get the PHB. I'm new to DnD Beyond. Trying to make an effort to meet people and whatnot. Sorry for going off topic everybuddy. :)

Yes, purchasing the Player's Handbook on this site unlocks all the book's content for character creation. You can see what is unlocked in the store page: https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/source/players-handbook
